Ephesians 6:10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.
What is it to be strong in God’s power? Well, how much can you do on your own? How much more can you do if you are constantly encouraged?
Now imagine having enough courage to do anything!
Now imagine having the strength to do anything with the courage you have now got!
This is the courage God gives you and the power He has – we just need to rely on that power and might!

Luke 2:51 Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart.
When Jesus spent the days in the temple instead of listening out for and obeying His parents, it was because of His love for God the Father and not neglect for His parents.
We often face difficult choices in our lives, and we need to make decision for which there seems to be no right answer – but following God’s guidance will bring us through!
God wants us to obey Him, but also to keep an eye on the world and what we should be doing in and for the world and others around us.

Ephesians 3:1 For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for the sake of you Gentiles
How do you see yourself? Do you think you are a free citizen or a prisoner in society, or somewhere in between?
I like the way Paul expresses himself as being a prisoner of Jesus for the sake of the gentiles – he was bound to serve the gentiles by Christ!
If we don’t see ourselves as being bound by Christ, are we fooling ourselves into believing we don’t need to do Christ’s bidding?

Mark 8:2 I have compassion for these people; they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat.
Can you imagine following someone around just to hear them talk about God – and to not bring food with you for the journey...
And if that lasted more than three days! Would you be thinking about going back home and getting some food?
God knew the people had been totally taken in by Jesus’ words, and knew they needed to be fed – He had compassion on them and wanted Jesus to feed them.
Jesus obeyed!

Hebrews 11:32 And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson and Jephthah, about David and Samuel and the prophets
Sometimes we don’t have time to tell people of all the things we know about God and how much He means to us... so what do we do then?
Sometimes it is not our task to bring the knowledge and history of God but instead to show people just how much God means to us.
Showing people how much we love God often make more sense than us trying to tell others what we know of God!

Isaiah 50:10 Who among you fears the Lord and obeys the word of his servant? Let the one who walks in the dark, who has no light, trust in the name of the Lord and rely on their God.
Who is it you listen to? Do you listen to the words your church leader tells you or do you like to make your own mind up?
If we find it hard to trust in what other people say, then we must listen to and obey what God has to say.
God uses people to try and get through to us all the time, we should try to listen to them comparing what they say with what God has said...

Psalm 84:12 Lord Almighty, blessed is the one who trusts in you.
Or we could word it something like: “It is those who put their faith and trust in Christ who will be happiest in their souls.”
How do you explain a feeling to someone else other than being able to almost touch the feeling because it feels so real?
God is faithful and merciful to make sure we do feel His presence and His love when we trust in Him. It is this love and peace which becomes a tangible handle we can hold onto that we feel.

Psalm 124:8 Our help is in the name of the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
We really do have the very best looking after us! Our God, creator of heaven and earth, is the one looking out for us!
What better guardian than the creator Himself! But not just God... We are surrounded by His angels who are on the ground with us and looking after us every step of the way.
If you make something and it goes wrong, you would probably be the in the best position to be able to fix things – God made us!

Number 6:24 The Lord bless you and keep you;
God told Moses to tell Aaron how to bless the people – and it started with these words!
When I finish talking to people on the phone, I very often end with “God bless you” and it never really made me stop and think until someone pointed it out to me!
We do need to ask God to bless other people all the time, but also to tell them you want God to bless them... that sort of thing may well be what allows them to see how God can and does bless them...
Happy New Year and God Bless You!

Psalm 59:1 Deliver me from my enemies, O God; be my fortress against those who are attacking me.
We do have a protector watching over us who has already overcome every obstacle in our way... but if we choose not to follow Him, then what use is that!
God wants to love and protect us from everything, but in order to do that, he does require we listen to and obey Him!
What are you going to do differently next year – like tomorrow!!!

Psalm 95:6 Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker;
This brings back memories of singing these words as a song almost 2 decades ago in our youth ministries; but the words remain true as they have for hundreds of years!
We need to humble ourselves before God and show Him how much we think of Him because of all He has done for us already.
By humbling ourselves, we show Him we are giving Him the glory for all He has done as our creator God as well as our saviour!

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
No matter what we have done in our past, if we are willing to come to Jesus and openly admit our failings with a truthful and humble heart, He is faithful to forgive us totally!
Jesus came to give us freedom from the world, from the sins we have committed and from the debt we owe because of our sins.
God wants us all to be able to join Him in heaven; this is why he allowed Jesus to come and be with us and be our ultimate and final sacrifice!

Psalms 148:1 Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord from the heavens; praise him in the heights above
There should not be any place on earth where we feel like we cannot praise God!
There are restrictions by some governments around the world which prevents people from publicly praising God; but nothing can stop your heart from praising Him wherever you are!
We know when we get to heaven we will be able and willing to praise Him forever and without limit; but we can still try to constantly praise Him before we get there!

Galatians 3:26 So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith
We have been given a promise we will all be safe in Christ’s authority as He stands faithfully defending us from our sin debt when we say we believe in Him.
It is not just the words but the meaning of those words in our hearts which sets us free from our sin debt.
Allow Christ to set you free from your sin debt so you may live your life safely in His arms, protected from eternal death, given to eternal life with Him in God’s presence.

Matthew 2:11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshipped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.
The shepherds may have been the first to come and see Jesus, but the Magi were the most esteemed who were called to see the Son of God.
These people had travelled far to find this new king, and cause quite a stir in doing so – because the king had heard of their exploits!
They gave some very special gifts to the new-born king because they knew He was going to be a very special king.
Our Saviour.

James 1:17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
Merry Christmas! Today we celebrate the most amazing Gift God gave to us, the birth of our Saviour Jesus Christ!
No matter how much we think the world is going to pot... God continues to give us amazing and miraculous things to encourage and protect us.
Look up to God today and thank Him for what He has been able to do in your life and thank Him for the perfect gift He has given us!

Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: the virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.
How often do you look out for the things God is doing in your life? Far too often we just accept what happens and think nothing of it – until something bad happens, then we blame everything and everyone!
God is continuing to work in our lives all the time and many times we overlook what He is doing because we want those things in our lives.
If we stopped to examine all God does in our lives, we would begin to see just how blessed we are!

John 10:5 But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognise a stranger’s voice.
Sometimes it is difficult to work out who is talking when you are in a crowd of people – something we don’t face too much of at the moment with social distancing.
But when you hear the voice of a loved one, you know who they are, and you may well be able to pick them out from a crowd just from their voice.
Jesus wants us to love Him like this and be able to pick out His voice no matter where we are and what we are facing.

John 1:25 questioned him, ‘Why then do you baptise if you are not the Messiah, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?’
How do you show other people you are a Christian and follow God’s ways?
It may think it is hard to show people your beliefs because they are invisible, but your actions are an outward and visible confession of your inner beliefs.
God wants us to continue being bold and showing people they can be bold themselves.
Will you take a stand today and confess your belief in Christ?

John 1:14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Over 2000 years ago, God made it possible for His Son, Jesus the Christ, to be born of a human mother and to live amongst us for a special purpose.
He gave us that moment to treasure for the rest of our lives and we remember what He did each year around Christmas day.
This year may well be very different from any other year because of the world situation – but God’s love continues to be shown in so many things He does for us.
Remember what God has done this season.
