Romans 12:10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honour one another above yourselves.
When Jesus told us the most important things in life are to love God with everything we have and then to love one another likewise – He was not kidding!
Love for one another is central to our life on earth. Without this love God has given us, we are nothing in reality!
Holding each other higher than we hold ourselves will always allow us to do more than if we try to hold ourselves up!

Romans 12:3 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.
One thing Jesus impressed on the disciples was they are just normal people going about life on earth – but with a special guide given them directly by God!
We don’t get to call ourselves kings, priests or anything else in life – it is the people around us who get to call us those things.
Anything more than that needs to come from the one who has the authority to call us more – God!

Romans 11:25 I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers and sisters, so that you may not be conceited: Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in
When the church sets its focus on anything other than Christ, all they will see is what the world provides.
What God wants us to do is to open the church doors and invite the people in who need Him most – those who are lost and poor.
When we open the doors and allow the people Christ is inviting in, we are beginning to do His will in our lives.
Open the eyes of the church by doing what Christ wants, not what the world wants!

1 Corinthians 4:16 Therefore I urge you to imitate me.
One of the things Paul knew was there had to be a new breed of examples for men to follow, example who were not corrupt and filled with self-pride but filled with the Spirit.
God knows how we are tempted by the things of this world and so He needs people to live as example who are not giving in to the temptations, but resisting them and living for Christ.
If we keep close to Christ we will remain strong enough to resist the temptations of this world and be the examples Christ wants us to be!

Romans 3:22 This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile
After Christ had gone back to be with God in Heaven, people had to learn a new way of faith... not by seeing the constant stream of miracles anymore, but because they had already happened.
You may think this is easier now because we have the proof... Well, I don’t see large queues of people trying to get into church, so I guess it’s not!
No matter what we call ourselves, we all answer to Christ because of what He has done for us, personally!
We need to cling to the faith He will return!

Acts 7:48 However, the Most High does not live in houses made by human hands.
Far too often in our lives we try to put God in a nice compact and pleasing box where we can fully understand where He is and what He is doing!
This is not God! This is our idea of what God should be!
There is no way we can ever hope to capture God in a book, in a church, in a special ornament or anything else!
God is creator, not created!

Luke 9:3 He told them: “Take nothing for the journey—no staff, no bag, no bread, no money, no extra shirt.
When God calls us into ministry, it may not be to lead a huge church, start a new church or other seemingly glamorous tasks – He may be calling us to just love and support someone.
Each one of us has skills which we can do because God has given them to us. If we trust God and obey Him in His asks of us, we will succeed because He knows what we are good at!
Trust and obey. It is the best way...

Acts 4:29 Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness.
There is no greater power than a humble servant who is able to speak with the boldness and power of God through them!
You can notice when a person submits to God’s authority before they speak out. You can notice when a person submits to God’s will before they do things.
God wants what is best for us, but in order to find out and apply that in our lives, we must submit to Him fully first of all.

Mark 16:20 Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.
When we are willing to do what Christ wants in our lives, we will see how much more He can do than us alone!
Jesus did so many miracles whilst here in human form, and everything He did, He did with God working through Him!
God wants to work through us – we need to be willing to allow Him to work in every way He wishes.

Acts 4:12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.
Just as the Apostles continued to show people how important it was to know what Jesus had done for us all; how He had given His own life in our stead so we could be freed from our debt for the sins we do.
No matter how many sacrifices we offer up to God, they are not going to be any better than the perfect sacrifice Jesus was for us.
This is why we owe everything to Christ and this is why we need to know the truth about Jesus.

Luke 24:45 Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.
If you want to learn about something, you need to listen to people who are willing to teach you about the subject.
Christ came, not to just be our Saviour, but to make sure people understood why He did this all.
Jesus spent His life learning and teaching, just as we should be trying to do.
God continually tries to teach us too – we need to stop and listen so we can learn!

Psalm 105:8 He remembers his covenant for ever, the promise he made, for a thousand generations
We may not be able to keep our promises all the time – and we then begin to think we should not make promises we cannot keep.
Christ, on the other hand, made a whole lot of promises and has been making sure every one of them comes to pass!
We can utterly rely on every promise Jesus made to us and treat every word He said as a promise for us now and in the future!

John 20:19 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you!’
Can you imagine the uproar when Jesus entered the locked room without warning!
Not just because the disciples fear the soldiers coming to get them, but because they feared the priests doing something too!
When we think we have nowhere to turn to, Christ can come into our lives and remind us He has things under control!
Trust Christ and allow Him free access in your life, always!

Psalm 16:8 I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.
Have you ever watched a blind person get led around by a guide dog? They trust that dog to guide them round obstacles and keep them away from danger.
If we were more like a blind person, depending on a guide, and less like a seeing person telling the dog where to go, we may just stay out of trouble!
God is trying to guide us through the Holy Spirit. If we are willing to listen to Him and depend on Him to keep us safe – just maybe we will succeed more often!

John 20:2 So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, ‘They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!’
It’s OK to not understand just how much Jesus has done for you. It’s OK to not get how much He loves you. It’s OK to have doubts!
When the ladies had seen the empty tomb, Mary ran back to tell Simon Peter – she thought they had stolen the body!
We now know Christ rose from the dead because they disciples and many people saw Him afterward.
Accepting there can be miracles is a first step!

John 19:38 Later, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Now Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because he feared the Jewish leaders. With Pilate’s permission, he came and took the body away.
Joseph was a “secret Christian” just like many people in the world today – secretly worshipping Christ because of the fear they have for the world leaders.
Jesus looks what is in our hearts and not what happens in the world. If we are willing in our hearts – Christ is willing!
Joseph and Nicodemus together gave Jesus a right and proper burial according to Jewish customs. They did this as their final act of obedience because the world could no longer hurt their king...

John 19:15 But they shouted, ‘Take him away! Take him away! Crucify him!’ ‘Shall I crucify your king?’ Pilate asked. ‘We have no king but Caesar,’ the chief priests answered.
Who do you uphold as the king in your life? Do you care more for sports than religion? Do you care more for money than the poor?
We all have our failings in many aspects in life, some of which pull us away from God in many ways.
What we hold dearest in our lives will always make it to the top instead of what should be at the top.
Why not try giving Jesus that top spot for a while and see how your life changes!

1 Corinthians 11:25 In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”
Easter is a time of great sorrow, but also great blessing and happiness.
How often do you get carried away with all the modern world celebrations and forget about the simple things God has given us to live by?
When you sit down to eat and drink next, think about what Jesus came to do for you...
He did this all even though He knew what was coming...

John 13:21 After he had said this, Jesus was troubled in spirit and testified, “Very truly I tell you, one of you is going to betray me.”
Just because you trip up and fall, does not mean you have lost the race...
God knew we would trip and fall at many stages in our lives, so He allowed Christ to come to earth and take on the punishment for our sins once and for all.
He did this because of His love for us, even before we said sorry and before we knew Him!
Just because you failed at one stage, does not mean you have failed everything. Christ won the race for us!

John 12:27 Now my soul is troubled, and what shall I say? “Father, save me from this hour”? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour.
Jesus did not shirk His responsibility – even though He knew what it would mean and of the harsh treatment and punishment He would have to endure!
Sometimes we like to ‘change the rules’ so we don’t have to face troubles of hard times... but sometimes we do have to face up to the hard times in order to grow stronger and wiser.
God wants us to know, however, He is with us every step of the way!
