Matthew 26:72 He denied it again, with an oath: “I don’t know the man!”

What do you do when someone asks you if you are “one of those bible punchers” or some other derogatory term for Christians?

Jesus has warned us we are going to be berated because we follow Him – and it could be a rough ride.

But He also promised He would never leave us and never forsake us – no matter how far we go and how much we deserve otherwise.

What a friend we have in Jesus!

Matthew 26:42 He went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.”

Grieving is a part of life, a part which should not just be skipped over to get on with something else more profitable, but an integral part of our society.

It is not a comfortable part of life, but it is necessary for us to accept what has happened and move on to another chapter in our lives.

Having someone to walk with you during this time is so very important. People do not always walk with God during these times, so step forward and be a surrogate for them...

Isaiah 48:15 I, even I, have spoken; yes, I have called him. I will bring him, and he will succeed in his mission.

God calls people to do things because He knows they can do things! He does not call people to test how much they can do or how far they can go – that's just how we feel.

Our feelings are just that – feelings. God knows the truth and knows what we are capable of. If we continue to walk with Him and trust Him for guidance, we will see how much we can do.

Alone, we are just that; alone. But with God we can do so much more and reach so much further.

Trust Him, always.

Mark 10:42 Jesus called them together and said, “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them.

When we work for any company, they are in charge of what we do – that is part of us working for them...

So if we are under the authority of someone else, we may be working against God’s ways without realising it.

We must always look to God for guidance on what we are doing and how we are working, whether it be in our own company or for someone else – God should always be the ultimate authority.

Matthew 22:37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’

None of us like to be proved wrong – but if we are willing to accept we can be wrong, we can learn more!

When the Sadducees tried to trip up Jesus with a point of law, Jesus answered them in a way where they were given a chance to accept they were wrong...

We need to take more notice of what God says then what the world says – God is the author of this world, we are the corrupters.

Proverbs 8:8 I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence; I possess knowledge and discretion.

We can all look back on good or bad choices and criticise the path we took – we learn from the outcomes of things which happen around us... or at least we should be learning!

Wisdom is accepting the truth and changing our lives to follow that truth and to steer clear of the bad things in life.

Sometimes we have to make the choice before we find out what happens – then we need to follow wisdom so the outcome is the best we can hope for!

Proverbs 4:10 Listen, my son, accept what I say, and the years of your life will be many.

The more we accept God’s ways into our lives, the more He is able to keep us and guide us through this world.

We may well face the same natural disasters as those around us and face the same world as they do – but we face it knowing we have God on our side.

God wants us to do as much as we can for Him and the more we try to work with Him, the more we will be able to do.

Live with God, every moment of every day!

Proverbs 3:26 for the Lord will be at your side and will keep your foot from being snared.

In these terrible Covid times we do worry about things we have no control over – because they are frightening, and we cannot see them – just the consequences!

Even though we see the terrible things which overcome the people who do not take proper precautions, we also see the amazing things which happen to those who do take care.

God wants to continue protecting us, but we should not take Him to task by setting aside common sense!

Proverbs 3:24 When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.

I know times are tough for so many people and I know many people are not sleeping well because of the stress and worry in their lives.

God wants us to share our stress and worries with Him so He can try and lift those burdens from our shoulders – which means we have to start to talk to Him!

God knows our troubles and our worries, but also knows if we are willing to open those up to Him, we will find peace...

We can know this too by trusting in Him with everything.

2 Timothy 2:23 Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels.

We all know how stupid words or arguments will produce even bigger arguments, distrust and distress with all involved – but we all continue to say stupid things!

If we had a little person sitting on our shoulders whispering into our ears when we are about to do or say stupid things, we would get into a lot less trouble...

If we are willing to allow God to guide us, we have that person on our shoulders every minute of every day – just listen!

Psalm 23:1 The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.

If there was one thing my Dad taught me, it can be summarized in this verse.

God does not teach us to be the most prosperous people in the financial world, nor the greatest scientific minds, but the greatest and humblest hearts...

It is not all the money in the bank, or the cars in the drive, or the food on the shelves... but the Godly love in your heart!

John 8:12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Don’t try and create your own light to live by, rather live in the light which is Jesus Christ.

God sent His Son to be this light we can live by and through His example we should be rebuilding our broken societies by showing them the light to live by.

Allow Christ to guide you and share His Word with all people in your community – allow His light to shine through you!

Judges 4:4 Now Deborah, a prophet, the wife of Lappidoth, was leading Israel at that time.

Can you imagine the uproar when Deborah was chosen as the prophet to lead Israel – this is a man-based society who don’t take kindly to woman telling them what to do!

But God chose Deborah for a reason, one which has probably been forgotten over time because men like to be in charge!

We have some pretty awesome women who are church leaders now, not to rock the boat but because God chose them! Follow them because God says so!

Matthew 4:25 Large crowds from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea and the region across the Jordan followed him.

How much do you miss going to church? I know I miss the meeting and greeting and sharing; even though I spend much of my time behind the sound desks...

What do you do in order to get to hear a church service – especially when the country is in lockdown 3.0!

We get so used to searching for so many things online – but how much do we search for God’s word? How about searching for an online service...

Exodus 20:6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.

When God gave the Ten Commandments to Moses, He made sure they knew He was a jealous God – the first commandment.

But He also wanted us to know He would show love to generations upon generations of people who are willing to love Him as He loves us!

Keeping His commandments is just one way we can show Him we do love and respect Him in the very best way we can.

Proverbs 25:23 Like a north wind that brings unexpected rain is a sly tongue – which provokes a horrified look.

Be careful what you say in the heat of the moment – you may well be breaking someone else’s life instead of building them up like Jesus wants us to do.

Just one harsh word could break someone’s heart and leave all those around wondering why you would ever say something so bad... just look at the results of some politicians recently!

God wants us to consider what comes out of our mouths so we build up people rather than break them down!

Proverbs 18:24 One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

What happens when a friend does not turn up when they said they would, or forgets about something special arranged between you?

It is not nice to be let down, especially by friends, but there are times when we will do the letting down too – because we are human, and we do get things wrong!

But God continues to stand by our sides and continues to be there for us, not matter what time it is and no matter where or when we are. God is always here with us!

Mark 7:6 He replied, ‘Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written: ‘“These people honour me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.

It is nothing new to see the difference between people who say the right stuff and people who do the right stuff.

I hope and pray I fit into the second category in other people's eyes because that is what I try to do with God!

It is important to set a Godly example and not just say Godly things; we are the light and salt in our communities by which others will be encouraged or discouraged by.

Matthew 6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

Jesus has taught us to pray a simple prayer which means and contains so much – ending in the plea to ask God’s forgiveness and to pass on forgiveness to others in the same manner.

If we want to live a life of peace with God, we need to start by living that life of peace with others.

If we start out in the right manner, we will find it much easier to follow Jesus’ instructions to love one another!

Psalm 28:1 To you, Lord, I call; you are my Rock, do not turn a deaf ear to me. For if you remain silent, I shall be like those who go down to the pit.

Oh how we rely on affirmation from others all the time... we feel good when we are able to go ahead and do something extraordinary, but it doesn’t mean as much unless someone tells us how good it is!

I can remember being alone in the sixth form study and building a house with a complete stack of cards... and nobody saw it! An old bus rumbled past and shook the table and everything fell down!

Don’t be disheartened when you don’t physically hear from God – He is always watching and always pleased when you do good!
