Matthew 5:17 Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfil them.

Sometimes I hear people describe how Jesus re-wrote the rulebook... He came to uphold it, not re-write it!

Jesus wanted us to see the promises of God come true so we would have more hope for the promises still to come true.

Jesus knows how much we depend on proof for so many things in life, so He fulfilled many promises in person.

We just have to cling on to the hope we now have in His promises of our futures.

1 Corinthians 1:9 God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

For many years the Israelites wandered through the desert; I still cannot get my head round the logistics of so many people wandering through the desert with tents!

But God made a promise and was keeping it. The people, however, broke their promise to follow Him on a few occasions; but God kept His promise!

We have hope because we believe in the promises of God; the promises which stand firm and true, no matter what!

Acts 5:29 Peter and the other apostles replied: ‘We must obey God rather than human beings!

How do you react when someone tells you to do something which goes against all God has taught you?

I do try to continue following God’s teaching but know I fall short on many counts still; but my heart is set on doing better things for God every day I live.

The Sanhedrin were trying to get the disciples to do what they said rather than what God had commanded because they had lost their way.

When you feel lost, turn to God’s word and find you way back...

Revelation 2:4 Yet I hold this against you: you have forsaken the love you had at first.

God knows how much we go through in our lives, minds and hearts. He is with us every step of the way and continues to want to help us further.

But should we turn our backs on love, we lose sight of the goals God has set before us.

God wants us to take His love with us wherever we go, not leave it behind with the people we think deserve it.

His love must be shared openly and freely – that is how He gave it to us.

Hebrews 12:8 If you are not disciplined – and everyone undergoes discipline – then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all.

When was the last time your parents disciplined you in some way? It may be quite a while from my point of view, but I know my parents always wanted me to do what was right.

When I stepped out of line, they would try and get me back in line sooner rather than later – this often meant some sort of disciplining.

God is no different. When we step out of line, He does what is required to get us back in line and to do what is righteous.

He does this because of His great love for us.

Hebrews 12:12 Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees.

Have you ever tried to hold something up for an extended period? Even though it may be something small, your arms tire and you eventually give in!

God knows we continue to face small temptations all the time – we continue to try and fight them, but we give in after a while because we are tired of fighting them!

Allow God to strengthen you through the Holy Spirit in your daily lives – in everything you do, accept His help!

Hebrews 12:7 Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their father?

When things go wrong, how does it affect you? Do you shrug it off and move on, or do you stop and ask why?

God wants us to stop and ask why! What use is it for Him to stop us from doing something if we ignore His warnings and continue to do what we please?

Will you stop and think when things go wrong? Ask yourself if God is trying to get your attention so you move to the right place at the right time!

Hebrews 13:9 Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings. It is good for our hearts to be strengthened by grace, not by eating ceremonial foods, which is of no benefit to those who do so.

How many strange things do your church leaders ask you to do? Have you stopped to think about what they are asking you to do?

Our leaders should be fully trusting God for their guidance so they can give us the guidance we need as well as upholding God’s will for the church.

Don’t be side-tracked by strange teachings – always compare what you hear with God’s Word.

God wants us to live in His grace and not be taken away by things which benefit people for their own profit.

Exodus 6:3 I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob as God Almighty, but by my name the Lord I did not make myself known to them.

We don’t all get to hear a voice shout out to us saying “I AM GOD!” or a miracle happen to us which can convince us we have God with us...

Abraham, Isaac and Jacob each had their dealing with God without at first knowing they were in the presence of God.

God is with us and continues to do things for us without us realising just who is looking out for us.

Stop and think about why things happened the way they did today...

John 5:24 Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.

My Dad was a great man in my eyes, one who grew up knowing God and is now with Jesus in Heaven at the start of his eternal life!

Dad got the know God more each day and continued to learn more and teach others about Jesus’ love for them.

We have this promise from Jesus about having an eternal home where we get to not just be with Him but enjoy His love continually for all eternity!

Psalm 33:2 Praise the Lord with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre.

Oh I wish I could play a musical instrument successfully! When I start trying to play, many will probably run the other way to get away from the din...

We need to praise God in any way we can, not just with the biggest harp or most strung guitar! God wants us to praise Him no matter how good or bad we are at doing it.

God listens to your heart when you praise Him – so praise Him from deep within your heart!

Matthew 6:22 The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light.

Whilst living in London I have seen many horrible things, but I have also tried to bring God with me wherever I go to allow others to see there is still hope.

When we allow the bad things to be the big things in our lives, we get discouraged and downhearted; but if we focus on God and allow others to do the same, we feel and live the hope!

Allow your body to be filled with the living water and let it overflow into the lives of people around you. Spread love and hope!

John 15:9 As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love.

When we see Jesus’ life, we see the ups and downs of a servant's life. We see how Jesus was willing to go beyond what we would consider as normal.

We see a Father’s love which enabled Jesus to do so much more than we could imagine. We see a Father’s love which focused on the future as well as the here and now.

Jesus wants us to work in the here and now so we can focus our communities on the future with God in Heaven.

1 Corinthians 8:3 But whoever loves God is known by God.

How do you draw closer to God? Can you lift yourself up above your own height? Can you climb the highest stairs to get closer to God?

Nothing we can physically do will get us any closer to God – it is what is in our hearts which draws us closer to God.

If we are willing to love God without limit and without prejudice, then we will experience the love of God beyond this world!

God wants us to be honest with our hearts and not just words and deeds...

1 Corinthians 13:3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

One thing I have learned from living on an estate with ‘real people’ is you have to be real amongst real people! You cannot hide behind pretence or behind boastings!

God does not want people who go out of their way to show how good they are and how successful they are. God wants silent, genuine givers.

If we big up ourselves or our teams, we are gaining recognition and making others focus on us instead of focusing on the needy and poor!

1 Corinthians 13:8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

Love never fails... we could stop there, but we would probably brush over the statement without thinking about it if we did stop there.

We have many things in our lives which we think will last forever, like prophecies, laws, kingdoms, whatever! But they do fade and die over time.

God’s love will never fail, and it will never diminish. The longer we live, the more love we see and the greater we know His love is.

Luke 15:17 When he came to his senses, he said, “How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death!

When we step back from our positions of despair, we can often begin to see how other people are living in comfort when we are not.

But the truth is often hidden because some people are building up a picture of comfort when they are screaming inside!

If we are willing to get back to living with God, in any form we can, then we will soon see just how loving and caring God can be as He rushes out to greet us with open arms!

Romans 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?

No matter what happens in this world around us, no matter how mad we think the world is going, Christ has demonstrated His love for us, and nothing will ever detract from that!

The only thing which may make you think people are getting in the way of Christ’s love for you is yourself!

Our personal doubts and emotions can get the better of us without us realising.

In all things, look to God for love and support. Always.

1 John 4:19 We love because he first loved us.

Who is going to be the first one to step forward and show their love for everyone... waits for someone to step forward...

This reminds me of my days at school when the master asked for volunteers to go and work for charity! We all wanted to enjoy the events, but nobody wanted to step forward and help run the events!

Jesus made the first move by coming and laying down His life for us in a great demonstration of His love. Let us continue to replicate that love by sharing it on.

We don’t have to lay down our lives... how about volunteering for a day instead...

Luke 1:38 ‘I am the Lord’s servant,’ Mary answered. ‘May your word to me be fulfilled.’ Then the angel left her.

Did you realise yesterday’s verse was an angel talking to Mary? Today we see Mary’s response – the type of which we need to be willing to live.

If we are willing to trust in God with everything, we will be able to see more things happen because God makes it so!

The more we trust, the more we can see how God works in our communities and in our lives.

Trust in Him wholly!
