1 Peter 2:4 As you come to him, the living Stone - rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him -
God chose Christ to be the living stone, the chosen cornerstone, to be there in the foundation of the earth for our sakes.
We are to be like living stones as well, built around the chosen cornerstone.
This has all been put in place for us because He chose us, and we are very special to Him.
We are, to Him, a royal priesthood built around the head priest Christ.

1 Corinthians 3:10 By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care.
No matter how hard you work to build the right foundation – unless there is support for continued building in place, the workers after you may well allow things to collapse in a heap!
No! You are not the centre of the world! Each of us must build on the foundation which is Christ Jesus. Each of us must build con conjunction with the support in place.
Building a tall tower by yourself, no matter how grand and pleasing, will end in nothing more than a monument to your work.
Live with Christ instead.

John 1:17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
Without the law being written down, we may well have forgotten what is good and bad over time; but God made sure it was written down in full.
Now, what we have through Jesus Christ is so much more than the law – we have a promise which is the embodiment of the law!
Jesus came to ensure we understand just how much He gave us through His grace – because we already had the law to show us how we fall short of God’s wishes!

2 Peter 1:3 His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.
Don’t you love the way some people can put so much into a single sentence!
I am no orator or writer for that matter, but I do know when I see something which makes sense and packs a punch!
God has given us everything we need for a godly life – we need to choose what we do in our lives so we can live this life He has chosen for us!

Zephaniah 3:17 The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.
When we have help to do things, we find it a lot easier and are more likely to succeed.
When we do things for God, He will always ensure we do have the right support so we can achieve more for Him.
God is able to do more than we know. How much more support do you need than the ultimate support package – God in three persons!

John 3:17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
Often, we get too tied up in wanting things to notice just how much we already have!
God allowed His Son, Jesus Christ, to come down to earth and live amongst us as a human being because He wanted to save us!
We can look around us and see just how corrupt the world is, or we can focus on what God has done and be content we have a safe place to go to when this all blows up!

2 Corinthians 12:8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me.
How many times do you complain about things to God?
If you do not complain at all, then I urge you to start being honest with God and lodge some complaints with Him!
Unless we are honest with God about our true feeling on things, how do we expect God to be true and faithful to us...
Don’t complain just because you can – but take your grievances to Him and allow Him to take care of them all.

Genesis 18:14 Is anything too hard for the Lord? I will return to you at the appointed time next year, and Sarah will have a son.’
I cannot imagine what went through Abraham’s and Sarah’s minds when they heard they were going to be parents at their age.
Most of us would be happy to be able to reach that age, never mind having a child then too!
But, with God, all things are possible. Not only was He going to enable Abraham and Sarah to have a child, but they would be able to look after that child and bring him up properly!
We don’t have to take shortcuts for God to be able to do miracles in our lives – just trust and wait!

Philippians 2:14 Do everything without grumbling or arguing
How many times have your parents told you to get on with something without all the complaining, grumbling or arguing?
I can remember a few people in my past who have told me this; not knowing this came from the bible!
God does not want us to just roll over and accept everything which happens – God wants us to stand up for Him and do what is right.
Let God guide you today and do what He asks!

Acts 7:41 That was the time they made an idol in the form of a calf. They brought sacrifices to it and revelled in what their own hands had made.
It sounds such a silly idea – to put all your wealth in a pile, melt it down to make a statue and then worship the statue you made...
This is what we get up to in our daily lives. We take our wealth and use it to build up things which have no real value and spend our time doing things with them instead of what is real in life!
God wants us to remember to focus on what is real and true. Don’t lose focus on God just because life gets to seem overwhelming!

John 3:13 No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven – the Son of Man.
One thing Jesus said which is a leveller of mankind is ‘nobody has done into heaven except the one who came from Heaven!’
I do marvel at some of the extraordinary things people claim about where they have been and how they have survived – I just try to get on with my life and give God the glory I am still alive.
We have amazing doctors and nurses, many of whom helped to keep me alive last year, but it is God who must get the ultimate glory for putting everything in place so I can come back and praise Him, always!

John 3:7 You should not be surprised at my saying, “You must be born again.”
God wants us to live changed lives in this world so we can be seen and people who are very different from the world.
We should not be worldly people who make a difference, but different people who live in this world.
When Jesus said these words to Nicodemus (and others) He wanted him to stop and realise the difference between being in the world and being of the world.
Change! Be different! Be what God wants you to be!

Luke 11:13 If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!
What is your favourite memory about receiving a much-loved gift for a birthday or Christmas?
Can you remember just how much joy that gift gave you then? How long did that joy last for?
Christ has given us a gift which we cannot compare to any other gift because it is so special and will last for eternity instead of just one moment.
Accept Christ’s gift with open arms!

Luke 11:11 Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead?
OK, jokes aside... It’s not going to help anyone to give them something they fear when they are asking for love or attention!
Sometimes we may act like this without thinking because we don’t like the person asking or because we have held something against them.
God asks us to forgive so we can continue to show other people His love through sharing and caring.

Mark 9:40 for whoever is not against us is for us.
How many times have you tried to stop someone doing something just because you think your way is better than theirs?
Sometimes we do have to step back and allow people to do things their own way; they will be more encouraged by find out they are able to do things!
Jesus wants us to gain courage by doing things for Him – often we may think we cannot do it just because someone says we can’t!
Believe and trust in God above all others!

Daniel 9:6 We have not listened to your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes and our ancestors, and to all the people of the land.
Who is it you listen to when you pray? Do you listen out for God or do you give in and follow the rest of the people?
Far too often in our lives we do give in to peer pressure and do things God has asked us to avoid – not because we want to rebel, but because it is easier to give in and do them instead of making a stand!
God wants us to make a stand and allow people to see we are willing to do so – our faith will give rise to hope for others!

John 14:22 Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, ‘But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?’
You may think this a weird question to come from Judas, but we ask ourselves these sorts of questions all the time – and it is right to do so!
Where would our faith be if we blindly accepted anything and everything we heard. It is good to question and good to make things settle in your own minds and hearts.
Question things, but listen to God for explanations – don't run off and make conspiracy theories just to satisfy your mind!

Jude 1:22 Be merciful to those who doubt;
I love these words from Jude. Be merciful to the doubters...
I have always had an issue with the words Jesus told the disciples – to dust off their feet and leave the places where people would not listen.
I understand why Jesus said that because there is an urgency to our work as disciples, but we also have to show those who doubt mercy.
How else will someone get to know God until you show up and show mercy just like Jesus did?

Mark 2:7 ‘Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?’
Can you imagine the uproar when the church leaders watched as Jesus, a human being, forgave the paralysed man!
We must never forget Jesus is the Son of God and was given full authority by God to do many things... Just as Jesus gave disciples the authority to go out and heal people too.
Trust in God and obey what He asks, even if it is to reach down into the gutter and help a poorly soul, forgotten by the world...

Psalm 51:7 Cleanse me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
How brave do you feel?
Are you willing to step forward and ask God to cleanse you?
We often talk about our good lives as Christians, but we all know we still have issues in our lives.
God has promised to forgive us and letting Him in to do that forgiveness can be a big step for some of us.
But one which is truly liberating!
