Hebrews 9:11 But when Christ came as high priest of the good things that are now already here, he went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not made with human hands, that is to say, is not a part of this creation.

Christ put an end to our need for trying to find goats, calves or anything else good enough to offer as a sacrifice for our sins.

Christ gave Himself as our perfect and final sacrifice for all of our sins.

We need to embrace what Christ has done with open arms and share this truth with everyone around us.

Don’t judge people, embrace people and walk with God!

March 28: Mark 11:1-11

Key Verse: Mark 11:8
Many people spread their cloaks on the road, while others spread branches they had cut in the fields.

Devotion:
When I got used to driving everywhere instead of walking, I used to read passages like this and wonder why people would walk such a long way to do anything – then I think back to a time when I went to play golf in Zimbabwe where I lived back then. We caught a bus to the gold course, played our round of gold and then went back out to wait for the next bus home... unfortunately that was the day the bus drivers went on strike! So we had to walk a long way back!

When we don’t have the means to drive anywhere we want, or to catch buses, we have to walk or not do things. The choice is ours. Jesus made the choice to come into Jerusalem close to 2000 years ago. A difficult choice to be made, not just because they had to walk a long way, but because Jesus knew what was going to happen after He entered Jerusalem!

God made the choice for this all to happen because of His great love for the human race. God allowed Jesus to step forward and become our Saviour once and for all; to suffer for our sins, to die on the cross, to be the pure, living sacrifice we needed to cover our sins; He did this with humility and mercy!

As we remember all Jesus has started in this most Holy Week in our Christian calendar, let us try to walk our lives giving glory to Christ for what He did. Let us think about the things in our lives which made this a requirement! Let us remember we have been fully forgiven by God because of what Jesus has done those many years ago!

Points to Ponder:
Do you know what Jesus did for you?

Will you try to live your life remembering why He did this?

Psalms 118:1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures for ever.

From the very beginning when God created everything for us, through our lives and to the future, God shows us His love.

A love which we may find incomprehensible because of what Jesus had to do to prove it to us...

A love which has lasted throughout all of time...

This is the love God has for us and the mercy He continues to show us every day. Embrace it fully!

Ezekiel 37:10 So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet – a vast army.

Does what God ask for frighten you? Does it fill you with dread?

Sometimes when God asks us to step forward and do something, we are filled with dread because we cannot see how it is going to be possible.

But, with God, everything is possible. Ezekiel stood before a pile of bones. God brought them together and brought them to life because Ezekiel obeyed God; not because Ezekiel was strong and powerful, but because God is strong and mighty!

Jeremiah 20:13 Sing to the Lord! Give praise to the Lord! He rescues the life of the needy from the hands of the wicked.

I am truly thankful we worship a God who looks out for the poor and needy and supports them in many ways.

God will call on us to step forward and to help His children when they are in need.

We need to step forward and to answer His call so His people, our family, can be helped in the best possible way.

Luke 1:25 ‘The Lord has done this for me,’ she said. ‘In these days he has shown his favour and taken away my disgrace among the people.’

It is not nice to have anyone look down on you for something you have done wrong – worse still when it affects your family too.

When Jesus came into the world in Human form – it was not with all the pomp and ceremony we expect of a king coming into town but surrounded by doubt and even shame.

God wanted us to see we are going to be accepted by Him no matter where in life we are or how bad we think our lives are.

It is our personal relationship with Him which counts!

John 8:40 As it is, you are looking for a way to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do such things.

Far too often in our lives we get so caught up in the world we do not see things as God sees them – we lose focus on the truth!

God continues to try and open the world up for us to worship Him in and to give this freedom to many more people – we tend to hide things and shut down what we don’t like instead.

Be careful of what you are aiming for in your life – think about what God would like you to focus on and follow His lead instead!

Numbers 21:5 they spoke against God and against Moses, and said, ‘Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? There is no bread! There is no water! And we detest this miserable food!’

Don’t get too comfortable with all the things God allows into your life!

I know we, as Christians, continue to tell people how much God can do for them, but we should take note of human ways...

We do take things for granted once we get comfortable with them. We do grow dependant on things we don’t necessarily need in our lives.

Always be aware of how much God does for you and thank Him every day to remind yourself of how much He does!

John 8:16 But if I do judge, my decisions are true, because I am not alone. I stand with the Father, who sent me.

We all like to think we are right and even fight for what we believe to be right! But, are we justified in doing so?

Jesus was confronted by the Pharisees because He dared to say He was right! They immediately said He did not have the right to call Himself righteous.

Jesus has God the Father and God the Holy Spirit backing Him every step of the way! He has witnesses!

Psalm 119:9 How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word.

When we are young, we want to stamp our identity on the world around us – we try to show people we are something special!

When we are old, we just do things because we think we are allowed to!

God’s advice is for us to study His Word and to try to live by it in all parts of our life – only then can we stay close to Him in this chaotic world!

John 7:41 Others said, ‘He is the Messiah.’ Still others asked, ‘How can the Messiah come from Galilee?

Have you ever walked into a church and felt out of place?

God stretches out His arms to everyone – not just the rich or the poor – everyone!

Don’t be ashamed of where you are from or of your past. It is a part of you and a story to tell of how you got to know God.

Allow others to see the real you and invite them in to listen to and share stories.

We are all welcome!

Luke 2:52 And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.

If we have any doubt Jesus was a man, then we need to re-read passages like this! Jesus continued to learn and grow in wisdom as He learned from God, His earthly parents, and the people around Him.

God is not a God stuck in Heaven who has no understanding of what it is like to be human – He came to us in human form to demonstrate He does know us!

Depend on Christ because He knows you more than you realise!

John 5:44 How can you believe since you accept glory from one another but do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?

The longer we seek glory from other people instead of recognition from God, the longer we will be tempted by greed and power.

God wants us to focus on Him in our lives so we will be more likely to hear Him and listen to Him instead of the world around us.

Will you give more time to God today so you can learn a bit more about what He knows is best for you?

John 5:28 Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice

I wonder what the people thought when Jesus was telling them these words – that the dead would hear God’s voice and would rise to live!

I wonder what they thought when Jesus brought people back to life!

These are the promises given by God, retold by Jesus. These are the promises we can stand on.

Christ will come again. We will be with God in the end!

John 5:14 Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him, ‘See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you.’

We don’t know the full story of this man or his past and why he was crippled. What we do know is Jesus healed him...

Was he grateful? Well, there was not much evidence to say so!

Maybe Jesus was reminding him who healed him and it was Jesus’ choice to heal him!

Always be grateful for everything, big or small, Christ does for you!

Isaiah 65:17 See, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind.

Are you still worried about the things you have done wrong in your life?

Do you not know Christ gave His own life on the cross so your sins could be forgiven and separated from you as far as the East is from the West!

A new heaven and new earth will be created – one where nothing of this old earth will be remembered – no sins, no wrong doings, no sorrow, no hate...

Psalm 107:17 Some became fools through their rebellious ways and suffered affliction because of their iniquities.

How many times have you tried to fix something without reading the manual? How many times have you failed because you didn’t read a manual?

If we are honest, we do fail more than we should simply because we don’t follow instructions – we think we can do better!

The designer has made something and created instruction so we can get the best out of it – just read the instructions!

Luke 18:17 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.

How often do you try to be a grown-up about your relationship with Christ? How often does being a grown-up get in the way of your relationship with God?

No matter how we dress things up, so long as we try to be all grown-up with God, He continues to see us as His Children.

Stop trying to be tidy with God and come to Him as the mess you are – that’s all he wants!

Psalm 81:8 Hear me, my people, and I will warn you - if you would only listen to me, Israel!

Here God is pleading with the psalmist to remember to listen to Him and Him alone.

So many things seem to happen in our modern world where we lose track on who said what and whom to believe!

Trusting in God for everything and making sure we do remember to do so at all times is vital to our spiritual and mental health!

Psalm 95:7 for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care.

When the psalmist penned these words, it was to show how much they relied on God to be their “Rock of salvation”, “King above all gods”, “Lord our Maker” and Shepherd.

Always remember just who God is in your life and try to make sure He always occupies the “top slot.”

As long as we depend on God as being our King of Kings, He will be faithful to be our Shepherd and protector at all times.
