Matthew 2:16 When Herod realised that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi.

People often think about the wise men coming to the stable… in reality they missed that event and ended up visiting Jesus as a young child instead of a baby.

The Magi did what was right and hid the truth of Joseph, Mary and Jesus sneaking out of town before Herod realised what was going on.

Sometimes when we do something good, others will twist it and turn it into something horrible… Stick with the truth and righteous things; it is what God wants!

1 John 2:7 Dear friends, I am not writing you a new command but an old one, which you have had since the beginning. This old command is the message you have heard.

How do you respond when people ask you what commandments we should be following – Old or New Testament.

When we do study God’s Word, we find the Old and New Testaments bear witness to each other and should always be used together.

God’s Word as a whole is our list of commandments – not a shortened list which we can pick and choose from when we feel like it!

Psalm 96:10 Say among the nations, ‘The Lord reigns.’ The world is firmly established, it cannot be moved; he will judge the peoples with equity.

How do you survive in this world? Do you stick to the law and do nothing outside the law? Do you live for worldly gifts and treasures?

God is Sovereign over all. He is our Creator and He is our God. He alone deserves all of our attention.

He will never judge anyone by how much they have achieved on earth – rather He judges us by what He has asked of us and how much we have done when he has asked.

If we don’t listen, we will not hear...

Psalm 96:12 Let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them; let all the trees of the forest sing for joy.

Have you ever gone past or through a field and thought how wonderful a creation the field was?

I have often walked through forests or fields and marvelled at the straight lines, the bountiful harvest and the pure beauty.

Yes, man probably planted everything there – but God prompted it all to grow and fill our hearts and bellies with all manner of wonders.

Praise God for everything you see around you!

Psalm 8:5 You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honour.

This is mankind being talked about here! Do you realise just how much God thinks of you!

No matter what we have done wrong in our pasts, no matter how far we went away from all which is good – God still regards as in this light!

This is why we should be worshipping God and praising Him as if His name is far above anything else in our lives!

Ephesians 1:3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.

Outwardly who do you seek to get all the praise and worship?

Inwardly who do you seek to get all the praise and worship?

I like to do what I can behind the scenes in church and do not take easily to praise. I believe God should get the praise.

I know I am blessed by God through what Christ has done for me, and that is enough for me to know!

John 1:29 The next day John saw Jesus coming towards him and said, ‘Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

Can you imagine the scene – an unkempt man living in the desert near a river where He would tell people they need to repent their sins…

We may think many would object and cause a scene instead of stopping and listening to God’s Word.

This is the power of Christ. He can use any time, any place, any where to reach into people’s hearts with His love.

Share a little of His love where you are!

1 John 3:7 Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous.

When we learn about Christ, we begin to learn how we have a choice between turning a new leaf and doing what is righteous, or continuing on with our sinful lives.

Jesus wants us to turn away from our sinful lives so we can be better protected by Him as we walk close to Him.

Learning about Christ give us the opportunity to obey Him and His ways instead of the ways of the world and the ways of the evil one.

1 John 4:11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

Jesus came, not to destroy the world, but to make us whole by sharing His eternal love directly with us!

This is the love Jesus wants us to share with each other; a love which knows no bounds and is willing to get involved and do anything to please one another.

Jesus laid down His life to show us the extent of His love. He would like us to lay down our earthly ways of living to show our love for Him and each other.

Psalm 18:1 I love you, Lord, my strength.

In moments of weakness, who do you turn to? Do you have a best friend who is always there? What happens when they are not?

God is always here for us and with us – we can ask for His love and support at any time.

When we feel weak, poor or forgotten, we need to call out to God through our Lord Jesus Christ to give us the strength to endure the issues we face.

Psalm 147:15 He sends his command to the earth; his word runs swiftly.

When God wants something to happen, He speaks and things happen!

We don’t have to research up on something in order for God to fix it! We don’t have to make sure everything is in place before God fixes stuff!

When God does something, people are going to hear about it no matter what way it is done.

Give God the glory for things He does in your life!

Psalm 149:1 Praise the Lord. Sing to the Lord a new song, his praise in the assembly of his faithful people.

How often do you sing out praise to God, not in your head but out loud!

How often do you praise God for the little things which happen in your life, those everyday things which go right?

How often do you tell others about Jesus?

We need to give Christ all the glory for everything He has done for us. We need to praise Him every moment we can of every day!

Acts 8:17 Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

It is amazing how the gospel spreads out far and wide – God makes sure His Word is heard by others and touches the right people at the right time with His love.

The people of Samaria had heard the gospel and they started believing. The apostles were surprised by what they heard and immediately sent two to go and minister to them.

They wanted to obey Jesus and make sure the Holy Spirit was going to be part of their lives so they could continue to learn from from hearing the gospel.

Mark 1:17 ‘Come, follow me,’ Jesus said, ‘and I will send you out to fish for people.’

Christ wants us to turn away from the trappings of this world and walk with Him in a manner like He did when He was on earth.

We may find it very difficult to live up to such a high calling, but with Christ’s help we can move forward with God!

We need to take into our heart what we learn from the bible and then share it with the people around us so they get a chance to get to know God too!

1 Samuel 1:18 She said, ‘May your servant find favour in your eyes.’ Then she went her way and ate something, and her face was no longer downcast.

Hannah had been troubled for a long time because she had not yet had a baby even though she had been trying for quite a while.

She came to the temple and pleaded with God, weeping bitterly and praying quietly – others could not hear her praying, but God did!

God answered her through Eli with a blessing. That was enough for her faith to make her whole and allow her to have a child!

Will you believe enough to hear God when He speaks through someone else?

Psalm 40:1 I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry.

When things are not going well, we shout out for help and we expect some sort of quick response – getting upset if we don’t have that quick response!

Christ came to demonstrate to us the love God the Father has for us and how He is willing to help us in many ways; but we do have to be patient.

Jesus had a very traumatic last couple of days. He chose to be patient and obey God. God rewarded Him by granting His plea to save us!

Be patient...

Psalm 44:23 Awake, Lord! Why do you sleep? Rouse yourself! Do not reject us for ever.

It’s OK to think you have been forgotten – even when you think God has forgotten you…

We would not be right, but it is still OK. Sometimes we get so mad because things have not gone our way and we need a way of venting our frustration!

God alone knows the right time and the right place to help us out in the best way possible.

We have to trust Him to do so!

Psalm 89:5 The heavens praise your wonders, Lord, your faithfulness too, in the assembly of the holy ones.

Each miracle, each answered prayer, each blessing is looked upon by heaven and God is glorified for making it happen.

We don’t tend to see just who is behind everything because we are too focused on this world.

When something good happen, give God the glory because He is probably already organising the next step!

Psalm 21:2 You have granted him his heart’s desire and have not withheld the request of his lips.

Sometimes we think God only answers the people who are “important” in some way or another – especially when we read about Kings and Queens having their prayers answered.

But king David was a sinner just as much as we are. God did not have to answer his prayers just because he was king.

God answered his prayers because he asked God!

Psalm 36:5 Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies.

When things are not going well in our lives, we can feel very far from God because everything else seem to overwhelm us instead.

There is not place on earth, or anywhere, where God cannot reach out to you!

God’s love, mercy and faithfulness spans the heavens and the earth, covering all of us with extraordinary passion.

You cannot avoid God’s love!
