Psalm 50:17 You hate my instruction and cast my words behind you.
What happens when you get told to do something you don’t want to do? Do you do it begrudgingly? Do you say yes but never do it?
When God asks you to do something He knows you are capable of doing it and he knows it is for the best in your life.
We need to listen to what God says and obey with gladness and praise… which can be hard!

1 Samuel 16:12 So he sent for him and had him brought in. He was glowing with health and had a fine appearance and handsome features. Then the Lord said, ‘Rise and anoint him; this is the one.’
When it was time for Samuel to go and anoint the next king of Israel, it was not a big public affair which would be celebrated with great street parties or public feasts.
God wanted Samuel to realise this was something God was choosing and not mankind. God was making the choice quietly behind the scenes.
All Samuel had to do was listen and obey – that is what God is asking of us too.

1 Samuel 17:39 David fastened on his sword over the tunic and tried walking around, because he was not used to them. ‘I cannot go in these,’ he said to Saul, ‘because I am not used to them.’ So he took them off.
If there are any words in our bibles to remind you to be your own self, it is these words!
David, as a young shepherd boy, stepped forward to face a Philistine nobody else would. King Saul gave him armour to wear – what a privilege…
But David discarded it all to be himself and face Goliath with God as his protector.
Stand firm with God today!

Psalm 56:3 When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.
When was the last time you had to totally depend on someone else? What was that feeling like?
When I was in hospital, I had to fully depend on the doctors and nurses to keep me alive; a very humbling experience.
God will give you what you need when you need it. Are you willing to trust Him to do that, or will you continue to try and make something for yourself?

Psalm 57:1 Have mercy on me, my God, have mercy on me, for in you I take refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed.
How often do you really rely on God? How often do you wait patiently for Him to answer your prayers?
God is not bound by time as we are. He has promised to answer our prayers. We need to obey Him and ask through prayer!
Don’t wait for the disaster to loom, step forward and ask in prayer before it gets that far!

Mark 3:21 When his family heard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, ‘He is out of his mind.’
When you start to do things as a Christian, you are going to get a fair amount of people who will think you are nuts because you are working for free or working harder than they think you should work.
But the more you work with God, the more you find out how rewarding it is, but also how many people need help!
When I was working in London I found a whole team of people who were willing to work hard to help others to get to know Jesus and to experience His love in one way or another!
Be the change!

Psalm 19:3 They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them.
How many times have you looked up at the night sky and marvelled at the number of stars out there? If you are able to find a dark place where there are no street lights, it looks even more magnificent!
Now imagine each one of those stars declaring the glory of God!
No matter how many people you hear shouting out the name of Jesus, it will never compare the the whole of heaven shouting out His name!

2 Samuel 5:10 And he became more and more powerful, because the Lord God Almighty was with him.
King David is known as the greatest king of Israel, not because he was a shepherd, a warrior or any other way you describe him!
He was the greatest king of Israel because he chose to listen to God (for the most part) and obey God (again, for the most part.)
Allow God to direct your hearts and minds so you can achieve the impossible, not by your strength, but through what God can do with you!

Galatians 1:12 I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ.
Paul’s receipt of the gospel was not unique, but it is probably very different to many people’s expectations!
We think of learning about Christ from a preacher or teacher who can explain things to us; we don’t always think of receiving it direct from God.
God is willing each one of us gets the gospel direct if it is going to make the difference between us believing or not. Nothing is too much to ask.

2 Samuel 7:17 Nathan reported to David all the words of this entire revelation.
What do you do when you hear the truth? Do you hide it because you are afraid others will go against you?
Do you joyfully shout out the truth to everyone around you?
Or are you somewhere in between; taking that truth and meditating on it, talking to others and mentioning it a bit at a time… hoping someone will take time to talk to you about it…
We need to grab God’s truth with both hands and share it to anyone who is willing to listen – because it is the truth!

Psalm 29:11 The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace.
Go on! Read a bible verse today! #DailyBread
When we read the bible, we don’t just get a few more words through our brains because we dared to read them!
God will allow you to understand a little bit more each time you read His Word.
Exercise your heart by reading God’s Word.

Psalm 51:9 Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity.
How many times have you done something wrong and tried to cover it up, only to find something else had to be done to cover up the first issue?
I know, as a child, I had to cover up for many things – some of which the evidence is still with us after over half a decade!
Are you willing to admit to your sins before they take hold and live with you for many years?
Yes I did admit to that sin a long time ago!

Psalm 51:13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways, so that sinners will turn back to you.
If you are asking God to look out for you all the time, what are you willing to do for Him in exchange?
I know God doesn’t work like that, but are you willing to do things just because He loves you?
If we can show someone else how much God means to us and how much He loves us, we can change their lives without changing their lives!

Hebrews 2:17 For this reason he had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people.
God had planned this all along, and He made sure all the right people throughout history had been in the right places at the right times for this to happen!
Even when man demanded their own kings and ways, God continued to make sure this moment would happen – the day Jesus was presented at the temple as a baby human boy!
God knows best, believe Him!

2 Samuel 15:13 A messenger came and told David, ‘The hearts of the people of Israel are with Absalom.’
Do you get jealous when others are liked more than you? Do you get upset about others having more friends? Do you long to be like someone else?
God has created us the way we are and the sooner we accept we are the people God has created, the better off we will be.
I’m not saying we can all be perfect if we accept the way we are – because most of us have learned bad things from others.
But if we listen to Christ and obey Him, we can live better!

Psalm 86:6 Hear my prayer, Lord; listen to my cry for mercy.
If we continue to live our lives by constantly calling out for God and relying on Him always, we will not have to spend so much time calling out for help when we are in dire need!
God wants us to constantly talk with Him and allow Him to know we are willing to ask Him for help when we need it.
We should not wait until it is too late before we ask for help!

2 Samuel 24:10 David was conscience-stricken after he had counted the fighting men, and he said to the Lord, ‘I have sinned greatly in what I have done. Now, Lord, I beg you, take away the guilt of your servant. I have done a very foolish thing.’
There were many times when King David did things his own way because he was headstrong or lusted after something…
But, each time, after a word from the prophets, he came to God and asked for forgiveness from his ways.
Each time, God forgave him. God is faithful to forgive when we come and admit to our sins.

Mark 6:13 They drove out many demons and anointed with oil many people who were ill and healed them.
How could the disciples go out and heal the ill and drive out demons from people?
They listened to Christ and obeyed Him. When God asks us to step forward and do things, things which we may doubt or be afraid of, we can be sure it is the right thing to do!
God wants us to succeed in working with Him. He wants us to have an abundant life. He has a plan. We just need to follow that plan!

Genesis 22:12 ‘Do not lay a hand on the boy,’ he said. ‘Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.’
God may ask you some difficult things, but He is not going to put you in harms way if you are willing to obey Him!
We may think all is lost when we do something for God we think is impossible, but God has already made the plan for it to succeed.
Trust wholly in God and allow Him to fulfil His promises before you give in to the world!

Psalm 119:15 I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways.
What do you do with your bible? Is it used as a decoration on your book shelf, or do you read it?
If you read it, what do you do with the words you read from it?
God doesn’t just want us to read the bible because it is His Word, He wants us to hear what the words say, think about them, keep them in our hearts and share them with our neighbours!
