Luke 7:22 Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things you have seen and heard: that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have the gospel preached to them.

Did Jesus turn round to the disciples and tell them these things to boast about them? No!

What He was doing was telling them of the events which the prophets had said would happen when the Messiah came.

Jesus was trying to build up the case for them to fully accept Him as being the Messiah, giving them more proof so they could tell others of these same truths.

Jesus came to save the world and not to blame the world!

John 14:11 Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves.

When Jesus was trying to get the disciples and people around Him to believe His Words He was obviously having a hard time.

Jesus tries hard to get us to believe the simple words, but then sometimes words just don’t seem to be enough for us to follow Him.

He came and did many miracles, He continues to do miracles; if you don’t want to believe the words, then believe the miracles!

Trust God.

John 11:15 And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, that you may believe. Nevertheless let us go to him.”

I cannot pretend to figure out what was going through Christ’s mind at the time of this story, but we get some straight talking here.

Jesus was actually glad Lazarus had died, not because it meant Lazarus had gone through death but because it gave Him the ultimate opportunity to show them life!

Jesus does not want us to suffer, but sometimes we force His hand and this is the only option left to Him.

Give Jesus more opportunities to do remarkable things in your life rather than horrible things!

John 12:30 Jesus answered and said, “This voice did not come because of Me, but for your sake.

Have you ever taken notice of what Jesus says here? Thinking back to yesterday’s verse when God declared He was pleased with Jesus; why did people hear the voice?

Jesus knows God the Father and He knows what to expect, but the people around Jesus did not know.

God has not chosen to speak out loud too many times and each time has been so we can hear what He has to say.

We are the ones who need the encouragement and the faith; God gives us the means to reach that!

Matthew 3:17 And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

For you to stand up in front of a crowd and shout out about how pleased and happy you are about and for someone else may well take an extraordinary event.

God had no problem with shouting out about Jesus because this is His Son and He has lived a pretty extraordinary life so far.

Don’t forget Jesus came to John and asked that John baptize Him in the river. So this is God being very pleased because Jesus is setting a great example for everyone.

Matthew 12:18 “Behold! My Servant whom I have chosen, My Beloved in whom My soul is well pleased! I will put My Spirit upon Him, And He will declare justice to the Gentiles.

These are the prophetic words from Isaiah which were to be spoken by God the Father about Christ Jesus; words to be directed to the church.

These words would be spoken by God because Go has already promised these words through His prophet.

God is Just and continues to uphold each and every promise He has made through the people chosen by Him at the time.

Jesus Christ, the chosen and beloved Son of God, our King, our Saviour and mediator.

Isaiah 42:1 “Behold! My Servant whom I uphold, My Elect One in whom My soul delights! I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice to the Gentiles.

These word are description about Jesus Christ, Messiah and King! The one and only chosen directly by God.

Our Lord would have the Holy Spirit, given visibly when Christ was baptised by John.

God’s task for Christ was to bring justice to all the people in the land who were willing and able to accept His Words.

This alone gave Him to qualifications as teacher and King.

Philippians 2:7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.

Christ emptied Himself of any righteousness by taking on our sins knowing the only way to pay for them was with His own life!

Christ also came as a servant even though He is our King of Kings!

He gave up every right He had just because He loves us so much.

This was not a task He took on because He was told what to do; He took this on because He knew it was the only way!

Hebrews 10:5 Therefore, when He came into the world, He said: “Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, But a body You have prepared for Me.

These were words being attributed to David; words which were said to raise awareness of what was yet to come.

During David’s time it was quite proper to obey the laws and to make sure others did so too.

I think God was getting a bit weary with the whole sacrifice thing because He knew what was ahead and how much of a difference it would make.

Psalm 40:6 Sacrifice and offering You did not desire; My ears You have opened. Burnt offering and sin offering You did not require.

These are the very things ordered by God for people to have a way of atoning for their sins.

When performed correctly and with a willing heart, God was willing to accept them instead of their own lives; our God is merciful!

God was more willing to accept love over any of the other sacrifices.

Once God made a way forward none of this was going to have to be in place any more!

2 Corinthians 5:21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

It may be difficult for us to understand how Christ could like a sinless life being in a world which is so corrupt; or how He could be sinless being born of Mary.

But it was the Holy Spirit who enabled Mary to have a child without a human man – this was by God’s design.

Christ gave that all up to accept our sin onto His shoulders and to die in our stead so we can be free from that sin.

He is our Righteousness. He took away our sins.

Psalm 23:1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

This is a wonderful Psalm which many people know of because it is quoted so much; but have you thought about who this is referring to?

Our immediate thoughts may be this is God the Father but our Good Shepherd is Christ Jesus, God the Son.

Jesus has given us everything and yet so many people continually seek more and more.

Once we accept what He is giving us with open hearts, we find just how much we have and how little we lack.

Judges 6:24 So Gideon built an altar there to the Lord, and called it The-Lord-Is-Peace. To this day it is still in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

Gideon was given first-hand experience of God’s absolute love when he was shown love and peace when he was expecting death.

Gideon built an altar and named the place he was at Jehovah-Shalom, or The Lord is Peace.

That altar remained in place for some time because it was still there when the script was written describing the events which had happened.

Are you reminding people of God’s love and peace in a special way?

Exodus 15:16 Fear and dread will fall on them; By the greatness of Your arm They will be as still as a stone, Till Your people pass over, O Lord, Till the people pass over Whom You have purchased.

When the people of Israel were told to leave Egypt and trek through the desert in search of the promised land, God was with them all the way.

It may not seem like it because of all the trouble they got into. It may not seem like it because they were hungry and thirsty.

But they were protected against many enemies; all they had to do was to have faith and trust God.

Yes it is hard to keep your faith when all round you seems to be falling apart – but keep it and enjoy the experience.

Exodus 3:14 And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”

When Moses asked for an explanation from God about how He should be introduced it was with the Hebrew word YHWH being the Self-Existent one.

What better way to express what God is that to describe Him in terms of always being here!

I love the fact God has always been and will always be. There is no need to try and figure out how long He has been around or the last time He was here.

He has always, is and will always be here!

Genesis 22:14 And Abraham called the name of the place, The-Lord-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”

If you wanted to name a place after a person, whom would you name it after?

Abraham wanted to make sure God’s name was lifted up high and this was one way of doing that.

People for generations would know this place as being the place where God provided for them.

God continues to provide for us day in and day out – make sure you tell others of the wonders He does in your life each day!

Genesis 18:27 Then Abraham answered and said, “Indeed now, I who am but dust and ashes have taken it upon myself to speak to the Lord:

The name of God used in this verse is the Hebrew Adonai being the plural of Adon, Lord, God, Master.

God is the Trinity, not just some spirit who created everything. Each of His names is often used in the plural to cover each of the Trinity.

God, in three parts, blessed trinity.

God, the Son, as sovereign master and king.

Genesis 1:3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.

The name of God used in the first verses in our bible is a unique name given to Him as the Creator of the heavens and the earth; and it has a plural ending.

It was Him (God, the creator of the heavens and the earth) who caused light to shine in our universe.

It was Him (Elohim) who gave us everything we can see – as far as we can see and beyond.

And He did this all so we would have a place to stay and to get to know Him through!

Numbers 16:22 Then they fell on their faces, and said, “O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and You be angry with all the congregation?”

When God said to Moses and Aaron how He would consume the whole congregation, they bowed before God and begged Him not to do so.

The same people who did wrong so many times and rejected God were the people Moses and Aaron were now protecting!

What sort of friend do you think you would be if you were faced with imminent danger?
