Acts 2:2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.
Other than how the Holy Spirit works within people, of which there are many accounts, there are not too many verses describing the Holy Spirit in its presence.
If you have ever been caught in a violent wind storm and taken shelter in a building of some description? The sound of the storm fills the place…
I know God does not require a noisy environment or violent winds in which to enter the room, but sometimes God wants us to stop and take notice.
What does it take for you to stop and listen to God?

Acts 1:14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.
When the remaining 11 disciples went back to Jerusalem, they met in the upper room to pray and seek guidance just as Jesus had taught them.
But it was not just the 11 men who went there, it was also the women (unspecified who) and also Mary the mother of Jesus.
Prayer should be an inclusive thing which brings people together and not something separating us from other because of sex, race or anything else.
God wants us to be of one accord, together, praying, seeking Him.

Acts 1:4 And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me;
The disciples were told by Jesus to stay in Jerusalem until they heard from Him; His promise of the comforter.
If you are like me, you want God to do everything according to your timetable instead of His! I have learned the hard way to listen to Him and actually wait!
God may ask you to wait many years whilst He works in your heart to get it ready. Trust Him and believe He is doing what you need!

Revelation 15:3 They sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying: “Great and marvellous are Your works, Lord God Almighty! Just and true are Your ways, O King of the saints!
Even the angels in Heaven sing of God’s glory and His Word. Moses gave so much guidance to the people, guidance from God. These are the words the angels will be singing in Heaven!
If they are singing them in heaven, don’t you think it is about time we started to listen to those words properly and not take them so lightly?
God’s Word is important – like the very air we breathe. Digest it!

Psalm 119:175 Let my soul live, and it shall praise You; And let Your judgments help me.
We would all probably like to live for a long time if we were able to live in good health and happy surroundings, but we live a limited lifespan.
So why not make the most of it and praise God each and every day we are alive with Him.
God gave us life in the beginning and He continues to promise us eternal life when we trust in Him. That should be enough to get you to praise Him every day…
But there is more! His love for us is real each and every day!

1 Peter 2:25 For you were like sheep going astray, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
Just as we are told in Isaiah 53:6, we are the people who have gone astray like sheep walking away from their shepherd.
Now, a sheep will not normally do this because they prefer to remain safely by the shepherd – but we do take chances and wander off from our Saviour.
Jesus Christ has paid for our sins already, He is our Lord and Saviour; allow Him to be the overseer of your soul by giving Him more control in your life.

Ezekiel 34:31 “You are My flock, the flock of My pasture; you are men, and I am your God,” says the Lord God.
When we hear Jesus or God speaking about us being sheep it is not like He is describing us as a woolly wild animal; more figuratively than actually!
God has described us as being sheep because He is our shepherd. A shepherd will always look after the sheep.
Various other animals are largely left to fend for themselves, but sheep are most often looked after very closely.
The shepherd does not carry round a ton of food to deliver to the sheep but rather guides them to the best pastures where they can get the best food.

John 10:7 Then Jesus said to them again, “Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.
When Jesus told parables to the disciples, more often than not, He would give them a clear explanation; even if the disciples would only understand things later on.
God gives clear instructions, but we continue to listen with muffled ears – almost like we are trying to listen to Him with noise defenders over our ears!
Jesus is our Lord and our protector. Nothing can get to us if we listen and obey…
Unfortunately we do tend to go astray and run into all manner of problems; stop, look and listen!

Mark 14:16 So His disciples went out, and came into the city, and found it just as He had said to them; and they prepared the Passover.
How often do you actually listen to God? You may say, always… but just how much are you listening?
At first we may say we do listen but continue on to expand our own ideas upon what we have heard from God; is that really listening?
Listening to God is not a once off process but a continual willingness to follow God and His instructions in our day to day lives.
Listen to God each and every day; obey His commandments and listen for further instruction…

1 Samuel 10:9 So it was, when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, that God gave him another heart; and all those signs came to pass that day.
No, they did not have open heart surgery in those days… This was God changing Saul’s heart.
Saul was a warrior who stood head and shoulders above most people; but God was now changing his heart to love the people and God.
We need people who have the right spirit, civil and common sense and wisdom to rule in our countries.
God can fill you with this and more if you only let Him work in your life too.

1 Samuel 10:6 Then the Spirit of the Lord will come upon you, and you will prophesy with them and be turned into another man.
If you are willing to allow God to have control in your life then you can expect to see some changes happen!
God wants to be able to use you to the best of your own abilities; He does not want to change you into something uncomfortable or something you are not…
God knows what sort of person you are and knows how to get the most out of you – but you have to give Him access and control.

1 Samuel 10:5 After that you shall come to the hill of God where the Philistine garrison is. And it will happen, when you have come there to the city, that you will meet a group of prophets coming down from the high place with a stringed instrument, a tambourine, a flute, and a harp before them; and they will be prophesying.
I do love how the prophets would get such clear direction from God to present to others… does it still happen today?
Yes it does. But so many of us are not willing to listen to those prophecies when they do come.
When God is trying to tell you something, you may not get the whole group of prophets with a band coming down the road to meet you – it may just be you and God!
Are you willing to listen even if there is not a huge song and dance going on about it?

1 Chronicles 13:8 Then David and all Israel played music before God with all their might, with singing, on harps, on stringed instruments, on tambourines, on cymbals, and with trumpets.
When David came to move the ark he did not take it lightly. He ensured he had more than enough people to dance and play instruments ensuring people knew how important God was.
He chose various skilled people to come together to make a wonderful noise for God.
What we need to remember though is that God is still just and will still be God even though we may be enjoying ourselves praising Him.
God keeps His promises and He keeps His rules. Remember that at all times.

Psalm 33:3 Sing to Him a new song; Play skilfully with a shout of joy.
How do you worship God? Are you caught up in a place where you are not allowed to openly worship Him or are you able to get up and sing always?
My prayers do go out to all those people around the world who are not able to openly worship our God when we have the ability to worship so openly in the UK.
Don’t hold back just because you think you may be the only one; make a noise for Christ. If you cannot sing, make another type of noise, but do it to the best of your ability!

Psalm 40:3 He has put a new song in my mouth— Praise to our God; Many will see it and fear, And will trust in the Lord.
When Christ begins to change your life you do feel like you have a new song in your mouth; you certainly have a new song in your heart.
We want to be able to praise and worship our God; both praise and worship does not only have to be done in song though because there are many ways of worshipping Him.
Take time out today to think of a new way in which you can bring glory to your God. Take time out today to think of a way to praise His name!

Psalm 37:31 The law of his God is in his heart; None of his steps shall slide.
When we really love someone or something we do all we can to do all that is right by them or it.
God has this incredible love for us which He has already shown us through all He has done for us and tries to do with us.
When we say we love Him are we willing to do all which is right by Him? Are we willing to live our lives for Him and with Him every step of the way?
Keep God’s word and love deep in your heart and let it change your life from the inside out.

Isaiah 51:7 “Listen to Me, you who know righteousness, You people in whose heart is My law: Do not fear the reproach of men, Nor be afraid of their insults.
The more we get to try and follow righteousness in our lives, the more we get to know righteousness.
The more we get to read up on God’s word and meditate on it, the more we get to know the truth in our hearts.
Unfortunately, we also get to hear a whole lot of bad mouthing from people who have something against God’s ways – but they are only people, not God!

Isaiah 51:1 “Listen to Me, you who follow after righteousness, You who seek the Lord: Look to the rock from which you were hewn, And to the hole of the pit from which you were dug.
After Isaiah had warned the people who were refusing to listen to God, he had words for the few who were still trying to follow God.
No matter how far you go with your running away from God, as soon as you are willing to listen to Him again, He is willing to take you back!
Remember He is your creator God and He continues to try to ensure you have all you need; but He does require a listening and loving heart.

Ezekiel 16:2 “Son of man, cause Jerusalem to know her abominations”
Ezekiel was told by God in no uncertain term he had to tell the people of Jerusalem what they were doing wrong.
Sometimes it takes someone on the outside to tell us what we are doing wrong because we have lost sight of the way or the direction God gave us in the beginning.
Listening to God is a continual process and not one we need to do once in a lifetime.
Listen to Him and learn, continually.

Micah 3:8 But truly I am full of power by the Spirit of the Lord, And of justice and might, To declare to Jacob his transgression And to Israel his sin.
When we are truly listening to God, He will be telling us things to tell others and not just for ourselves.
God used the prophets from the Old Testament because they were the ones willing to listen directly to God and then go out and tell others what God was saying!
God will fill us with the Holy Spirit so we can decipher what He tells us and what the needs of others are around us.
Listen and learn. Listen and pass it on.
