Genesis 8:21 The LORD smelled the pleasing aroma and said in his heart: “Never again will I curse the ground because of humans, even though every inclination of the human heart is evil from childhood. And never again will I destroy all living creatures, as I have done.

When God looked down on Noah and what he was doing, it pleased Him. No longer was there so much corruption in the world – instead this one family was worshipping God as best they could, just like it was in the beginning.

God wants us to turn our backs on evil. God wants us to live together in peace and as community just as He was in community with Adam and Eve in the beginning.

Give God a chance to make your life different!

Genesis 6:5 The LORD saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time.

How do you react when something you have made, created or constructed is bashed down and destroyed?

This world is God’s creation. He made it all for us! And yet, mankind was now doing just about every wicked thing against it and against God.

Just as we feel like we are being let down when our creations are destroyed, so is God feeling let down when we work against His Will in our lives.

Matthew 15:14 Leave them; they are blind guides. If the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.

Jesus Himself warned of the blind leaders as well. Something we need to make sure we take very good notice of!

Many leaders seem to go crazy when they get into power and do not live up to the promises they made when getting into that position of power.

Jesus, on the other hand, stood up to all the promises He made and tried to show the people who was telling the truth at all times.

Don’t follow the blind leaders – follow Christ!

Isaiah 56:10 Israel’s watchmen are blind, they all lack knowledge; they are all mute dogs, they cannot bark; they lie around and dream, they love to sleep.

If you were going to be the watch-person, would you not try and do your best to watch out for any danger coming?

It is a sad reflection on the Jews to see such words written down about their leaders – the Scribes and Pharisees!

Yet, this is how God was seeing them at the time because they had lost sight on where they were going and what they should be doing.

Just because we can spout bible verses does not mean we understand them or believe them – take in God’s Word and bury it in your heart!

Isaiah 57:17 I was enraged by their sinful greed; I punished them, and hid my face in anger, yet they kept on in their wilful ways.

If a friend is not going to listen to us when we are trying to correct them, what do we do?

As mentioned yesterday, we pray for them, earnestly! We ask God to do what we cannot do…

And sometimes we have to walk away from them for a spell so they can think about what they are doing wrong.

Jesus did not walk away from anyone whom He knew would turn to Him, His correction was often enough to set the person right.

Psalm 141:5 Let a righteous man strike me—that is a kindness; let him rebuke me—that is oil on my head. My head will not refuse it, for my prayer will still be against the deeds of evildoers.

If your friends beat you up (not physically but mentally or spiritually) then I would question two things: 1. Am I doing something wrong or 2. Are they doing something wrong?

Much of the time we may well find out we have strayed from God’s path and they are trying to remind us of where we should be going!

Having true friends who do point out when you go wrong is compared here with an excellent oil – how good it is to rub on our skins.

When our friends then get into trouble, we should also be the true friends who point out their errors and we should also be praying for them!

Proverbs 27:6 Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses.

When a friend tries to tell us we are doing something wrong, we should listen and make sure; friends are actually trying to help us most of the time!

But the enemy tries all manner of lies to get us away from God’s Word and from communing with Christ.

Just as the kisses from Jacob or Judas were used for evil, so are the kisses from the enemy.

Be very aware of your surroundings and make sure you are following where Christ is saying to go; make sure what is happening around you lines up with what God’s Word tells you!

Numbers 17:8 The next day Moses entered the tent and saw that Aaron’s staff, which represented the tribe of Levi, had not only sprouted but had budded, blossomed and produced almonds.

What does it take for God to get our attention? Will it take a miracle, a birth or death, a disaster, or will it simply be His Word?

I know it can take a while before we see the truth and it does sometimes take an extraordinary event to change our minds, but believing in the truth should be natural to all of us!

Don’t be stubborn like we see people acting in the bible, allow God to open your heart and believe before He has to do something bigger – you may not like what happens in the end!

Ezekiel 37:21 and say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I will take the Israelites out of the nations where they have gone. I will gather them from all around and bring them back into their own land.

How many times does God have to gather the people of Israel together before the rest of the world realises they are the chosen people of God?

The more things happen in our world, the more we are distracted from the truth and the more we look for other things instead of following God’s Word and His will.

We do not know when will be the last time, but we do know there is a limit before Christ returns.

John 20:16 Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means “Teacher”).

When you are surprised by someone, what comes out of your mouth is normally the truth from your heart; I’m not talking about being scared witless by someone, but by someone turning up out of the blue for you!

What is your reaction going to be when you see Christ? Are you going to show a great amount of faith like Thomas or Mary did – each in their own way?

Christ wants us to live with Him in this life so we are most prepared for eternal life with Him later. Christ wants us to know the truth now.

John 20:28 Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”

What are going to be the first words you say to Christ when you see Him face to face?

Thomas did doubt and Jesus was now standing in front of Him. Thomas did not make a clinical search of all the wounds but simply said “My Lord and my God!”

That was the moment he knew Christ had already forgiven him even though his doubt was now plain for all to see.

Christ was not rebuking him or punishing him but simply inviting him to believe fully once again.

Revelation 21:3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.

We live in a time where the Holy Spirit lives among us as our comforter and our guide, but there is coming a time when Christ Himself will once again live amongst us in person!

That time will be when we can live as His own people and He can live as our rightful King over all the earth!

These are not idle rambling of a man daydreaming but promises from God about our future life and the life of the earth. Each and every promise God has made comes to life because they are just that, promises!

Matthew 18:20 For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.

How big is a congregation? The dictionary definition is simply a group of people assembled for worship. The Jews preferred the minimum definition of 10 people gathered.

Here Jesus gives us a new definition; whether it be for worship, business, or whatever reason people gather together, if they gather in Christ’s name, He is with them!

Christ wants to give us guidance and wants to rule our hearts with us so we can live for and with Him; first, we need to submit to Him and allow Him to guide us!

Matthew 28:20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

When we tell people about Jesus and the gospel, we should not just be telling them one part of it; we need to spread the whole gospel story!

Jesus is a part of our bibles. He has been there from the beginning of time and people need to know every part of His life as well as the rest of the bible.

Share God. Share your bible. Do this all full in the knowledge that Jesus has promised to be with us right through the end of time!

But do everything trying your best to obey your God and Father!

Deuteronomy 11:13 So if you faithfully obey the commands I am giving you today—to love the LORD your God and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul—

What does loving God without restraint actually look like or mean to us?

We should be willing to do anything for God at any time! This does not mean He will be asking us to do terrible things to test our resolve! He is Holy, Just and Faithful!

God wants us to be willing to server Him, which means being ready to do things when He asks… which means trying to listen to Him at all times and obeying whatever He asks of us.

Deuteronomy 6:5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.

The first, and greatest commandment is that we love the Lord our God with everything we are and everything we have.

To many, this may be a tall order as they struggle to love the people around them or even themselves; which is why Jesus related the love for each other as being as important.

We tend to measure our love for others in one way or another. What God is saying is we should not try to measure it or even think it through – just simply love Him with everything!

Psalm 37:30 The mouths of the righteous utter wisdom, and their tongues speak what is just.

The closer we draw to God, the more we will be able to rely on His strength and power in our lives. The more we do that the less likely we are to lose it all and go off the rails!

God wants to keep us close so He can look after us, guide us and keep us from evil things. As we grow closer we become more aware of His presence.

As we allow the Holy Spirit to guide us and keep us, we also find we speak more of Him and less of the world; we begin to think more like a child of God than a child of this earth!

Luke 6:45 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.

Once again Jesus teaches us that our own mouths are going to let us down at some stage in our lives.

He further warns us the things which come out of our mouths will most likely echo what is deep in our hearts; when we get angry, we say things because that is how we actually feel deep inside.

It is sometimes only after we say things we realise what is in our own hearts; then we can make amends and change with God’s help!

Matthew 15:11 What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them.

How often have you had some sort of bad thoughts about someone just because of what they eat or how they eat? It’s disturbing even if it was only once!

Humans do tend to judge others all the time over silly things and Jesus points this out by saying it is not what goes in our mouths that makes us bad but what comes out of them!

Most of us find it hard to stop saying the wrong things; things which will hurt others or which are just plain evil. They just seem to slip out.

Jude 1:5 Though you already know all this, I want to remind you that the Lord at one time delivered his people out of Egypt, but later destroyed those who did not believe.

Parts of the bible may be hard to read because of events where God destroys people when we think He is all loving.

Even the most loving parent has to bring discipline to a child who has gone astray.

God is trying to prepare us through examples; giving us plenty of warning and time to get ourselves right with Him before He once again removes the evil from the earth. We need to listen to Him now!
