Matthew 26:27 Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you.
It is interesting to see how different people have translated these words differently; so whether we read we have to drink all of it or all have to drink it, it all must be consumed!
God does not want us to take a bit of the bible and see if it fits in our lives, a bit of the Gospel and see if we agree, a few of the rules as long as they don’t stop us from enjoying life…
God wants us to follow His way of life, His way of living and His rules.
God wants us to make a decision to follow Him and to stick with that decision all the way until we are with Him in Heaven; forever and for always!

Psalm 116:13 I will take up the cup of salvation, And call upon the name of the Lord.
What has God given us? He has given us Salvation. It is a free gift waiting for us to accept and take in; all we need do is to call on His name as our Saviour!
What is Salvation? It is being saved. Saved from what? God laid down the law in the beginning and we broke it – the penalty for us breaking the law was death.
But Christ paid for that debt we owe by giving His own life in our stead! Thank Him. Ask Him for forgiveness. Accept the most awesome gift of all time right now!

Psalm 16:5 O Lord, You are the portion of my inheritance and my cup; You maintain my lot.
When the tribes of Israel arrived in the promised land, the land was divided up according to tribes; but the Levites did not get a land allocation.
Instead they were given to serving God with the promise everything would in essence be taken care for them.
God continues to try and persuade us to trust in Him totally just as the Levites had to trust.
God has given us land, possessions, wealth and might according to His inner knowledge of us – trust Him in what He has done for you!

Psalm 30:5 For His anger is but for a moment, His favour is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning.
Does God get angry? Well, the bible says He does but it is my belief that God’s wrath or anger is not the same as ours.
When we get angry we tend to lose control of our emotions, actions and spirit. When God gets ‘angry’ it is because we have persistently done things wrong and He wants us to stop and change!
He does not lose control but does things to try and persuade us we are in the wrong; some of those things may seem harsh to us but they are what is required.
God is fully in control of His actions all the time – we lose sight of our direction!

John 16:20 Most assuredly, I say to you that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; and you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy.
God’s timing seemed strange and unknown at this time, just as it seems to many nowadays; but it was perfect in everything.
We may not be able to understand why things happen when they do and we may not be able to see any future in what happens, but Jesus’ promise still remains: “your sorrow will be turned into joy!”
When we look back and see why God allowed something or did something we can be sure it was for His glory in the end.
Believe in Him and trust in Him, always.

John 15:21 But all these things they will do to you for My name’s sake, because they do not know Him who sent Me.
Terrorists are not going to come after you just because they hate you personally; they will come after certain groups of people such as Westerners or Jews or Christians.
We will have to put up with some pretty horrible stuff just because we are calling ourselves Christians, just because we are identifying ourselves as being part of God’s family.
We need to stand firm in our beliefs and show other we are still willing to be called children of God, even when others put us down or persecute us.

2 Corinthians 12:10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
What sort of things are you willing to face for your best friend? Are you willing to go through hardships just so their life can be better?
Christ calls each of us to live up to the command to love one another, not just as another Christian, but as someone you care about.
Yes, that is hard, but the rewards are many and as we do this, Christ strengthens us from the inside and keeps us going to spread His gospel and His love.

Romans 15:1 We then who are strong ought to bear with the scruples of the weak, and not to please ourselves.
The more we read our bibles, study God’s Word, prayer together, worship together and stay together, the stronger we will be to help others.
In order to be the most effective Christians we can, we ought to know more about being a good Christian. Knowing about temptations can help us if we are strong, but may make us weak if we are not ready.
Continue on the path Christ has set before you, listening, learning, wanting more, worshipping and praying; that way we can be there for others when they need it most.

Galatians 6:1 Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted.
When you see someone fall over, do you just stand there and watch or do you offer a hand? What happens when they fall into a dangerous spot?
Our bibles warn us against trying to be the super hero to those who give in to temptations; yes we want to help, but if we end up giving in to that temptation too then we have failed!
Be strong and courageous, but be sensitive and sensible about it too!

Hebrews 12:13 and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be dislocated, but rather be healed.
Walking a straight line instead of going back and forth is always going to be easier! So why do we choose the longest path possible sometimes?
God would rather we stand up and be counted, walk with pride and keep to His ways to give others goals to aim for rather than go off the rails and bring others down.
You don’t have to be perfect to be a Christian – we are all broken; we have an awesome Saviour who wants to help us walk tall.

Romans 14:21 It is good neither to eat meat nor drink wine nor do anything by which your brother stumbles or is offended or is made weak.
Have you considered your actions and how they affect the people around you? I guess we all forget now and again.
I know I feel very guilty when I do things around people when I realise just how much it could tempt them or upset them.
Asking God for protection each and every day will build your strength up so you will get better at doing what is right for others and not just yourself.
Consider God’s will before every action.

Romans 4:19 And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb.
Abraham exercised his faith: he knew his body was beyond an age where he would be able to have children, but he continued to trust in what God had promised.
We need to put aside our earthly shortcomings and limitations because God is not limited by our physical earth as we are.
Give God your doubt so He can show you what is possible when you place your faith and trust in His hands instead of your own hands!

Hebrews 11:12 Therefore from one man, and him as good as dead, were born as many as the stars of the sky in multitude - innumerable as the sand which is by the seashore.
It was not what Abraham could do but what God could do through Abraham. God continued to wait until Sarah and Abraham had all but given up before He started the ball rolling.
God may just make you wait until He knows you will get it too – it is not what we can do but what He can do through us!
Waiting on God is not meant to be like waiting to be given a present, it is more like waiting for the right job to be created for your skills God has given you.

Hebrews 11:10 for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
Abraham knew he was looking for more than just a building, more than just a temple; he was looking for something God created.
Yes, we can all say how much God has created and we only build things upon that which God has created, but this is something more than our handiwork.
Christ instituted the church, not the building, the people. Christ showed us how we can all follow God and worship Him just as we were created.
Continue to try and obey Christ’s teachings…

Hebrews 8:2 a Minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle which the Lord erected, and not man.
In this letter to the Hebrew people, the author reminds them we serve a risen Saviour who was chosen by God to be our ultimate minister.
We have vicars, pastors, priests and many other leaders in our churches, all hopefully chosen by God, but none can compare to our Lord Jesus Christ.
We have a hand in choosing all our church leaders, but God alone chose Jesus Christ to be here with us.
He came from heaven to earth to serve us at a time when we needed Him most of all.

Isaiah 66:2 For all those things My hand has made, And all those things exist,” Says the Lord. “But on this one will I look: On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, And who trembles at My word.
God is our Creator. All things exist because He made them so. There is nothing we can see which God has not had a hand in making!
What or who did God lift up and glorify? His one and only Son, Jesus Christ!
If we are willing to accept these truths and follow Christ in His humble ways toward God, then we can expect God to look favourably upon us; not because we are anything like Christ, but because Christ is putting us forward to God!

Isaiah 42:3 A bruised reed He will not break, And smoking flax He will not quench; He will bring forth justice for truth.
When the prophet continues on to talk of Christ the greatness of our God continues to expand and show us yet another facet of our awesome God.
Christ came to save the world and build the church, not to condemn it and break it.
Just as the wick of a candle continues to burn and shed so much more light than just a piece of string, so too Christ sheds so much more light when supported by the church.
It is not for us to judge the church and others, but to show them the light Christ is spreading!

Isaiah 40:11 He will feed His flock like a shepherd; He will gather the lambs with His arm, And carry them in His bosom, And gently lead those who are with young.
I find each of the descriptions of God and His ways in the Old Testament truly inspiring. Here the prophet is telling of the greatness of God.
Just like a shepherd will do all they can to keep their sheep safe, so too will our awesome God do everything to keep us safe.
Sometimes when things go wrong it is us who have wandered off into the wilderness and not God letting us down. Other times it is the choices of others which seem to break our own little worlds.

Psalm 23:2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.
One good thing about summer in the UK is being able to lie down on green grass when the sun is out and warm; even better when you can do so out in the countryside.
That is when you can be in awe of the earth God has created for us with all of nature surrounding us; God’s promise to us!
God wants to give us rest, but not just a chair to sit and rest on, He wants to give us a place which is tranquil and beautiful – simply because He loves us so.
When we listen and obey, we are guided towards such places by Him.

Jeremiah 17:8 For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit.
This is a description of how good it is to trust totally in God. Once we take the step to fully trust in Him, we are able to see so much more.
Growing by the Living waters of God gives us the nourishment we need for our spiritual growth with Him.
The strength we gain is compared. Not to a shrub or plant, but a tree; a flourishing tree being fed constantly.
The tree did not just happen to be there. It was planted there for a specific reason!
