Genesis 17:19 Then God said, “Yes, but your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will call him Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him.”

God did not send Jesus on a whim at the time. He had been planning things all along about how He could build the church with Christ at the centre.

We often forget just how much God has done until we read about it over and over again, then it begins to sink in…

The timeline is put in place a very long time ago, despite all the things mankind would do in the meantime.

Yes, God cares for us that much!

Matthew 1:21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.

One of the things I find most amazing about God is how much He has done behind the scenes, setting so much up in place just for us, just for you.

He allowed a human mother to give birth to a human who was part of Him, who is part of Him; just because He loves us!

We do like to judge each other in the things we do, but God set things aside and allowed His Son to come and turn the tables over for us to be with Him and no longer separated from Him.

Acts 4:12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.

It is always good to remember the “obvious” as a seasoned Christian… but how many people have you passed on this knowledge to?

How often do you live up to the Word of God? How often do you reflect Christ? How often do you live for the Salvation?

God does not want us to sit back and relax in our new-found hedge of safety He tries to surround us with; He wants us to be pioneers, missionaries, disciples, evangelists, prayer warriors… living our Godly lives with others in this world who do not know this simple truth…

Hebrews 2:3 how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him.

How often do you ignore the rules? Did you know those rules (or at least most of them) have been set up for your good?

God has given us His word which has been passed down through generations and written down in biblical texts and scriptures for a long time. God has made sure of it.

Why? Because these are the things we should be living by. How can we ignore the truth about Salvation when it has been so clearly given to us… in writing!

Isaiah 1:20 but if you resist and rebel, you will be devoured by the sword.” For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.

How often have you blamed God for something which has happened or is happening to you now?

The wording here is quite specific from God… if you walk away from Him and ignore His instructions, then the world is going to eat you up!

God is not going to punish you! You have walked away from His protection and refused His help and guidance. What happens next is what the world around you gives you or what the evil one dishes out for you!

Isaiah 42:23 Which of you will listen to this or pay close attention in time to come?

I do love chapters 42 and 43 of Isaiah because they have made a big difference to the way I live my life; but it’s normally the beginning of both chapters we all focus on.

Who is going to remember the things God asked us to do weeks or years afterward? Who is going to remember the words He gave us?

Unless we focus on Him in our lives all of the time, we are likely to forget as many things as anyone else. Keep God up to date!

Jeremiah 13:15 Hear and pay attention, do not be arrogant, for the Lord has spoken.

If God tells you to do something, best you listen!

Our Creator God is the only one who knows everything that is best for us and everything we need; we may have a pretty good idea of our wants…

Don’t leave God out of decisions. Don’t leave God out of the big things in life, or even the little things… Don’t leave God out of life.

God has given us His Word, our bibles… use them with pride and give Him the glory for His amazing words!

Psalm 107:40 He who pours contempt on nobles made them wander in a trackless waste.

God is not one to make sure the people of most noble birth are treated the best or given the most – God sees us all on a level playing field.

But that does not mean He ignores the nobility or the people in charge, far from it.

If God has allowed us some position of responsibility, He wants us to fulfil our role to the best of our ability; after all, that is why He allowed us the role in the first place!

Job 5:16 So the poor have hope, and injustice shuts its mouth.

Do you always support the winning side, or do you continue to support your own team? God always looks out for His team, us!

No matter how low or how poor we get, God is going to continue supporting us and encouraging us to live our lives!

I think if you searched the bible for the word hope, most of the occurrences may well be in the hardest times, such as in the book of Job; because God always gives hope when we feel there is none!

Psalm 29:1 Ascribe to the Lord, you heavenly beings, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.

Each one of us has a duty to praise God and give Him all the glory due to Him; not just because He is God but because of all He has done for us.

Whether we are angels or the least significant creature on the earth, we need to acknowledge God as our creator!

He created everything perfect for each one of us. We continue to break things and mess things up, but he continues to be there for us always loving, supporting and even forgiving us…

Acts 2:38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

When we first heard about Christ, we probably had to take a very different view on this person they called Jesus. We probably had to take a very different look at how we say pretty much everything around us!

Believing in Jesus should change your life. Your life should be more focused on what God wants and less on what you want.

Your life should show you are willing to follow Christ and His teachings; just part of this may mean wanting to be baptised.

Christ wants you to have full access to the Holy Spirit!

Matthew 3:8 Produce fruit in keeping with repentance.

If you are truly penitent, if you know what your sin is, if you are willing to repent, then do things which show you are!

It is one thing to talk about being sorry, but another thing to be sorry. Most people will see straight through you when you pretend to be sorry; especially God!

Just like a tree is known by the fruit it produces, so we will be known by the way we do things and the way we act.

Act like a Christian. Be a Christian!

Proverbs 28:13 Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.

Jesus Christ was hung on the cross to be the perfect sacrifice for all of our sins. If we do not acknowledge this, we are saying He did this for no reason.

But if we do acknowledge it and believe it in our hearts, we are lifting Him up as our Saviour.

When we do that, we will be in the right place to receive God’s mercy; Christ wants to forgive our sins but needs to hear we are willing to admit to them and allow Him to bury them once and for all!

John 9:31 We know that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the godly person who does his will.

This may be seen as a contentious statement by many, but it is the theme we are looking at here, not the physical wording…

God is holy. He cannot abide sin. Yet He does listen to us because Christ listens to us. But why should He have to listen to those who are actively rejecting Him or profaning Him?

He doesn’t have to listen to any of it! But He chooses to listen to us because we have accepted Him into our lives. We, as sinners, have accepted holiness into our lives, so He, as God, accepts our prayers into His life.

Psalm 66:16 Come and hear, all you who fear God; let me tell you what he has done for me.

How often do you tell others about God – not just the cursory “I go to church” or “this is what the bible says”, but tell them what God has changed in your life?

There is nothing better than a personal witness to solve a case; everyone is facing the same case in life: “Should I believe in Christ?”

If you stand by and tell them of all the things the bible says, they may believe it if they take time to find out about things, but if you tell them personal stuff Christ has done for you, they will be more willing to listen in quicker!

Psalm 66:5 Come and see what God has done, his awesome deeds for mankind!

How much credence do you give to the Word of God? How much do you look back at the things which are recorded in your bible and ask questions about them?

It is good to ask questions, but better still to try and look for the answers and not to leave those questions unanswered.

God has done many extraordinary things to and with mankind; not all of them we would want to agree with. Don’t just ignore them because they sound bad, find out why they happened so you can avoid those same reasons…

Jeremiah 20:11 But the Lord is with me like a mighty warrior; so my persecutors will stumble and not prevail. They will fail and be thoroughly disgraced; their dishonour will never be forgotten.

Never forget God has made a promise to never leave you. Jesus recounted that promise when He was in human form. We have it written down!

Yet so many of us cry out for help when things go wrong and not when we are feeling good. We cry out only because we fail…

God is always with us, from when we feel on top of the world to when we feel the whole world is on top of us!

Trust Him, always, and allow Him to guide you in the best way forward. Listen.

Micah 4:6 “In that day,” declares the Lord, “I will gather the lame; I will assemble the exiles and those I have brought to grief.

God may well allow things to happen in our lives which we will question and wonder at, but when the time comes for us to be re-united with Him, He will make sure everything is perfect for us!

God is watching over us at all times and wants to help out every day – we just need to make sure we do ask Him for the help we need.

These words are directed at the Jewish nation, but they apply to all people. God is watchful over us all and continues to want to help us every step of the way which we are willing to make with Him instead of in spite of Him!

Hebrews 12:13 “Make level paths for your feet,” so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed.

Would you rather walk on a path which is level or a steep incline which will most likely allow you to fall and hurt yourself?

If we had the choice we would choose the easy way, but sometimes we have to put up with what we have in our lives rather than the choices we wish we had.

We need to make the most of what we have and to do that we need to take Christ with us as our helping and guiding hand; for every step and every direction!

Proverbs 4:26 Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways.

Each of us has free choice to do what we will; that will or those choices may not be the best we could do, but we do them.

How do you make the choices in your life? Do you follow the best or maddest sounding things to do, or do you try and discern what is righteous?

Our brains are amazing and fast; give a second or two though before you act… it may just make all the difference in your choices in life!
