Isaiah 42:20 You have seen many things, but you pay no attention; your ears are open, but you do not listen.
How many times have you been to church, a small group, prayers, meetings, etc and not actually listened to what was going on?
I must admit to being in church often and being too tired to listen or thinking about something else and missed the point of the teaching.
When we gather as Christians, we should be listening to each other and teaching each other as best we can – encouraging each other toward a better life with Christ!
Don’t close off Christ just because you are tired or bored!

Isaiah 2:6 You, Lord, have abandoned your people, the descendants of Jacob. They are full of superstitions from the East; they practice divination like the Philistines and embrace pagan customs.
At the time when Christ was on earth, the Israelites were complaining about God forsaking them, leaving them and not looking after them…
But, in reality, people had turned to idols, silver and gold, land and belongings, their own rules… the list continues… they had left God out of their lives.
Nowadays we see much of the same thing happening again – people complaining about God not being here when in reality we are leaving God out of our daily lives!

Psalm 46:10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
No matter what goes on in the world around us, no matter how much we get involved with things, we need to stop and think about this from time to time.
If we go about our lives in a big rush, we tend to leave all manner of things out of our lives; including partners and even God.
Take time out of your day today to stop for a while and just think about God and what He has done. Think of how you can get Him involved with your day today and invite Him along to everything!

Romans 8:22 We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.
As each of the disciples got to know Christ and the truth about Christian living, they began to see just how much the world was crippled through lies and deceit.
We do need to stand up and support this world – it is the only one God has given us to live on and spoiling it now leads to bad lives for us!
Allow the whole world to sing its praises to God by setting it free with the truth in God’s Word. Stop people ruling the world and allow God to have His way!

Mark 16:15 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.
Whilst some early versions of scripture may not have these words written in them, I believe them to be true.
Jesus knew the only way His Word was going to get to everybody was through us – too many people in high places were blocking the truth so they could get away with things.
Our societies are filled with people trying to cover up the truth, but also filled with people trying to share the truth.
Let’s get more people trying to share the truth so the truth can get to everybody!

Titus 2:11 For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people.
Was the grace of God ever hidden from people? Well, it may seem so when we look at our modern world!
The more people come up with good things to do, or at least things they like doing, the more they will go off and do such things leaving God behind.
Mankind does not like to admit to the truth when it can get away with a few “white lies” about things.
Stand up for the truth and allow God’s grace to fill this land as it was intended!

2 Corinthians 6:1 As God’s co-workers we urge you not to receive God’s grace in vain.
When people say they are going to be working for or with God, they should be doing exactly that!
But what happens to those who simply want to appease the people around them? They take in the words and ignore them because they are intent on doing their own things anyway.
They are the great pretenders of our time, being, as our bibles tell us, foolish! They are fools for rejecting the truth which is always given to them by God’s actual grace.

Luke 7:30 But the Pharisees and the experts in the law rejected God’s purpose for themselves, because they had not been baptized by John.
The Scribes and Pharisees had elevated themselves into such a position whereby they were rejecting God’s teachings in favour of their own!
“Shocking!” you may say, but how many of us do exactly that every day by saying what we say is right and not allowing God’s Word to show us the correct and righteous way!
They refused to be baptised because that would mean they would have to follow God’s ways. Our baptism should be the outward sign of the inner willingness to follow God!

Proverbs 1:25 since you disregard all my advice and do not accept my rebuke,
God calls us forward to be Christians, to be His flock, to be Children of God; we have the choice as to whether we listen to Him or we reject Him!
Far too often people simply ignore Christ and His teachings because it makes life a little simpler to handle. It is not the easy times in our lives which are going to shape us, but what we do in the tough times!
God will try and steer us in the right direction when we go off track. We probably will not like it because it means change in our lives; but He is trying to do a good thing!

Psalm 81:10 I am the Lord your God, who brought you up out of Egypt. Open wide your mouth and I will fill it.
We do only have one God. He is loving but just, merciful are fair. He is always ready and always willing. But, He does ask some things of us…
We need to open our mouths wide in prayer, praise and being ready to receive what He gives us back. The more we commune with Him, the more we are able to receive from His constant supply.
Being willing to live out our lives with Christ means being able to fill our lives with Him as well.

Luke 13:34 Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing.
We may look at the animal kingdom and marvel at the way parents take care of their children often forgetting how much man is willing to do for mankind…
But, far too often, we see mankind dealing out death and destruction instead of Christ’s love!
God’s love continues to allow Him to forgive us time and time again; are we willing to show that level of love toward others so they can begin to understand Christ’s love to everyone?

Isaiah 27:5 Or else let them come to me for refuge; let them make peace with me, yes, let them make peace with me.
Mercy and forgiveness are traits which are central to our Christian ways and something Christ Himself showed in abundance throughout His life on earth.
These are not things introduced by Christ but things demonstrated by Him which God has been trying to get into our heads for quite a while!
We may not want people who have wronged us to come back into our lives; Christ is using us to reach out to them and allow them to see how great His forgiveness can be!

Romans 5:3 Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance;
This may sound masochistic to some, but that is not what Paul had in mind here; rather that he was willing to take whatever life dealt him so long as he could continue to receive Christ’s gifts.
Always looking on the bright side of life can be very difficult when life is getting on top of you, but that is what Paul is telling the Romans.
Do not let the big issues in life overcome our faith and our beliefs because each trial will strengthen us in some way for the fight ahead of us.
Christ will comfort you every step of the way.

1 Peter 1:7 These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honour when Jesus Christ is revealed.
When you read up about how much heat and abuse ore has to go through to bring forward gold or steel, you will begin to see this statement in a different light.
God will allow things to come our way which we may not agree with and which we will not like – but how else is He going to allow us to see how important He is in our lives.
If we keep our eyes closed and our heart hard, then He has to use stronger and hotter environments before we weaken and let the ‘gold’ out!

Matthew 6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
How often do you hear people asking not to be led into temptation? I fear that in this world today we ask for the opposite, begging temptation to come along so we can go out and enjoy ourselves!
God taught His people to ask for the strength to resist temptation and transgressions; He still expects the same because He has not changed!
It is the spiritual power in temptations which gets us off track because we are spiritually weak to fight against such things – but God can give us the power to resist.

Revelation 3:10 Since you have kept my command to endure patiently, I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come on the whole world to test the inhabitants of the earth.
Revelation is the book of futures, the one which looks forward to what is still to come and what we need to watch out for!
There are going to be massive temptations which many of us will have to face in our lives, but God is promising to be with us every step of the way.
If we are willing to rely on His strength to carry us through our temptations, then we will be able to make it with Him. Do not try and go it alone otherwise the temptations will cover your life and drown you.

Zechariah 13:8 In the whole land,” declares the Lord, “two-thirds will be struck down and perish; yet one-third will be left in it.
Scholars tell us this section of verse is talking about the people who have taken to religion for religions sake and not to having a right and proper relationship with God.
What I don’t like is the sound of the odds – two thirds of people in this passage will be relying on religion instead of on God, and they do not get eternal life with God!
We have to make sure we do not get caught up in the religious side of things but stay focused on God and all He stands for – that is why Christians should look to Jesus as the fulfilment of God’s Word.

Amos 7:14 Amos answered Amaziah, “I was neither a prophet nor the son of a prophet, but I was a shepherd, and I also took care of sycamore-fig trees.
How many excuses have you made like “God won’t choose me because I have not been to college…”
God is not in the habit of choosing the most professional people He can find to do His bidding; God chooses the least to make the most of!
Amos was a shepherd boy and a gardener; there is no reference of Him going to any school to learn about God. God chose Him to make a difference – just like He can choose you!

John 7:15 The Jews there were amazed and asked, “How did this man get such learning without having been taught?”
Two things jump out at me, the fact Jesus did not go to bible collage or university to learn about the bible and, secondly, they knew it!
How did they know it? Was it that much of a closed community that every scholar knew the others? If that is so, this verse makes me extremely sad!
We must never exclude others just because they don’t come to our church or go to a specific school or college. Be open to everyone just a Christ was!
