Luke 12:5 But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after your body has been killed, has authority to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him.
How many times have people said the saying “sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never harm me?”
But I put it to you the most important thing to watch out for are the cunning words of the evil one who is set to try and lure you away from God at any cost!
We may well get physically hurt by sticks and stones, and words may not physically harm us, but they sink deep into our hearts and souls and can keep us from being with God.
Be encouraged by righteous things and righteous words!

Philemon 1:14 But I did not want to do anything without your consent, so that any favour you do would not seem forced but would be voluntary.
Have you ever felt like you are being forced to do work against your will and against common sense? I know I have and I’m not too good at following orders just because they are orders!
What we need to do is to try and uphold God’s way of living in this world which seems to be anything but following God’s will!
If God is asking you to do something you don’t like doing, it is for a very good reason because He knows what you like and often goes out of His way to bless you…
Sometimes we have to do the blessing...

John 15:15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.
When Jesus was preparing the disciples for what was to come, He made sure they knew just how much they meant to God.
Jesus lifted the disciples up as friends instead of servants because a servant should do whatever is required by the master because it is their job, but a friend does things out of love for their friend.
To have Jesus as your friend is absolutely remarkable – talk about crossing boundaries, classes, everything!
Your God wants to be your friend!

John 8:26 “I have much to say in judgment of you. But he who sent me is trustworthy, and what I have heard from him I tell the world.”
Jesus has every right to judge us for the things we do wrong. He has every right to tell us off for doing things wrong!
But, what does He choose to do? He chooses to tell us what God has given Him to tell the world. He chooses life over death!
As we continue in our global struggle over this pandemic, we really are in someone else’s hands all the time. Now is the time to listen to the truth and not hide behind lies!

Ephesians 4:14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming.
I wonder if you, like me, can look back on a day in your life when you felt like you were just a cork bobbing on the waves with no control over where you went.
But, as you grow in your life, experiencing more and learning more, you feel more able to do things and more willing to try and do those things.
Just remember. God is able. God can do anything. Will you trust in Him to guide and keep you no matter how insignificant your feel?

2 Peter 1:16 For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
There is nothing quite as good as being an eye witness to make sure you know what goes on – but, as magicians can testify, the eye can be deceived!
God did not leave anything to chance because He made sure there were enough witnesses to the life of Jesus and especially (as is the case here) when God spoke out loud!
I do struggle to read and that is why my English is not always that good and I try to keep things short but tell as much as I can about God!

Luke 3:22 and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”
I love the different accounts of Jesus coming to be baptized by John in the gospels. This account in Luke is just so ‘matter of fact!’
Just as a parent is pleased of things their children do which are right, so is God pleased when His children do righteous acts!
We have a loving Father who is watching over us every step of the way and trying hard to protect us in all ways.
When we listen and obey – He is ‘well pleased!’

Matthew 3:13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John.
Even though Jesus knew He was the Son of God, did miracles, healed the sick and preached the gospel, He still came to be baptised by John!
Did He have to be? No! He did this as a choice in His life. Just as we do not have to be baptised but can choose to be.
What we do in our lives becomes a beacon to others where they can be encouraged and lifted up.
It brought me to tears standing outside on Thursday as people all round the UK stood outside their houses and clapped and cheers for the NHS staff.
Show your love for others through the things you do!

John 10:41 and many people came to him. They said, “Though John never performed a sign, all that John said about this man was true.”
How often do you dismiss something someone has said just because it sounds unbelievable?
I know I am guilty of this a lot because I always like to see proof in one form or another – for me the proof Christ is real came from seeing how my prayers were answered by Him.
God is able and willing to do so much more than we can imagine – it is time to place your faith and trust firmly in His hands and allow Him to be God of all of us!

John 10:11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
How many people have you had who have come forward to help you or your family lately? I am pleasantly surprised how many people do reach out to offer help to others.
Many people here in the UK have been told they should not leave their homes for 12 weeks – my father being one of them – because the government cannot assure their safety.
But, our Lord and Saviour, was willing to lay down His life to make sure we live forever in Heaven.
What are you doing to keep yourself safe? What are you doing to keep others safe?

John 9:11 He replied, “The man they call Jesus made some mud and put it on my eyes. He told me to go to Siloam and wash. So I went and washed, and then I could see.”
When we think of miracles, we tend to think of them in terms of what can be achieved in our physical world… who would stick mud in their eyes to allow them to see?
But Jesus is not limited to physical ways or to logical ways – God works in way we can not imagine and in ways we think impossible!
Don’t limit your prayers to ways you can understand – if you are in need, ask for the super-natural and not just the natural!
God can and will do it!

Acts 14:27 On arriving there, they gathered the church together and reported all that God had done through them and how he had opened a door of faith to the Gentiles.
Oh how we are going to look forward to doing this sort of thing in person again!
Whilst much of the world begins to realise we have to stay away from people in order to stop or slow the spread of the virus, we still have this need to go out into the public!
This has been shown by the number of people who ignored government advice and went out into parks and beaches.
But even in this time we can still open the door of faith by showing people how much we rely on God and trust Him to bring us through this pandemic!

Acts 28:28 “Therefore I want you to know that God’s salvation has been sent to the Gentiles, and they will listen!”
God made sure people would listen. Often times we get too comfortable in our ways and it is only when something is taken away from us or given to others that we stop and take notice!
God does not want to turn anyone away and this is why the Gospel has been given out to anyone who is willing to listen.
The Jews were ignoring it, so it was made available to the Gentiles right in front of their faces.
Don’t wait until God does something drastic before you make a difference to your life – be the change!

Isaiah 6:10 Make the heart of this people calloused; make their ears dull and close their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed.
What happens when you really annoy someone? They normally turn their back on you and don’t want to hear from you again!
God was at this stage with the people of Israel and wanted them to stop and think about what they were doing to Him!
We really do not want to be on the receiving end of this sort of wrath from God – He was able to create everything and is just as able to take it away when we annoy Him.
I would rather try to walk with God and listen to Him each day...

Hebrews 5:11 We have much to say about this, but it is hard to make it clear to you because you no longer try to understand.
How far do you go to understand what someone else is trying to tell you? As the story tellers, we expect people to listen and to follow what we say…
But, as the recipients of those stories, we tend to let our minds and hearts drift far away from the subject.
I think of it as doodling with my mind because my mind seems to wander off and think of loads of different little things which are not related in any way!
We need to stop doodling and just do it!

John 11:33 When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled.
When we go through tough and terrible times, God is with us every step of the way; a fact we often forget…
Jesus knew exactly what was happening here but still, when He saw the emotion of the people, He was deeply moved – and even cried (vs 35)
God is not going to leave you alone – something I learned whilst in hospital last year. We may not like the things which happen to us, and God may actually cry alongside you – because life is like that...

Psalms 55:22 Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.
Our verse yesterday was rooted in this verse today – a slight difference shows us here…
We do need to give our fears and worries to God, but also our care; a subtle difference. Giving it all to God and trusting Him!
It may seem like He does not protect of from the things which continue to happen to us all, but when we do firmly put our faith and trust in Him, He will not let our world be shaken apart.
Be strong and continue to trust in God!

1 Peter 5:7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
What sort of things are you worried about at the moment? Are you worried about health, food, work, lack of any of the above?
I have learned to firmly place my worries in God’s hands because I have learned I cannot dig myself out of the troubles I have experienced over my life…
God wants us to depend on Him, but also needs us to step up and help out where we can. What good can come out of this life if we all just stop and expect God to do everything for us?
We are called to work for and with Him, and we are called to give Him our burdens and worries so we can work effectively!

James 5:13 Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise.
Whatever position you are in and whatever state you are in, you can always pray!
I know it was a national day of prayer in American over the last weekend, but I am saying we need to turn this into a national year of prayer – not just a day, a week or even a month!
God craves to hear from us every day – just as a loving parent craves to hear from their children all the time. Answer your Heavenly Father in prayer and in worship!

Matthew 5:42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.
How many times do you face someone asking you for something and turn round to say no?
I know there are a lot of professional beggars out there who do it purely for the money – some even being forced to do so by gangs.
But when we know someone is in need – what do we do. Whatever we do is going to define us and should be saying something about what we believe in too!
Show someone you love your God today by doing the unexpected!
