Isaiah 43:1 But now, this is what the Lord says - he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.”
One thing we often forget is that God has chosen us before we chose Him! He is our creator and God, and yet He chose us!
God does not want us to live in absolute fear of Him but instead to live in a loving relationship with Him. This does mean fearing what He could do if we rebelled against Him…
But then we don’t really have an excuse to do any such rebellion because He wants what is best for us in our lives.

Isaiah 44:22 I have swept away your offences like a cloud, your sins like the morning mist. Return to me, for I have redeemed you.
How many times do we have to be reminded of what Christ has done for us? The people of Israel had to be reminded over and over again of all God had done for them – but still they broke the rules…
Do you know what… God is merciful and no matter how much we do wrong, He is always willing to listen to us when we come back to Him with an open heart.
God loves you without question – how are you going to respond to that love?

Psalm 78:38 Yet he was merciful; he forgave their iniquities and did not destroy them. Time after time he restrained his anger and did not stir up his full wrath.
So many times in our own lives we get caught up in something and before we know it we are running off down the path of sin… even though we didn’t think we made that choice to begin with!
God knows how we work and He knows what makes us tick. He knows how much we do wrong but is continually willing to try and allow us to learn the righteous ways.
His love for us extends far beyond the wrongs we do – never be discouraged just because we fell off the wagon once or twice or even many times!

Habakkuk 3:2 Lord, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, Lord. Repeat them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy.
Think of the most striking event in your bibles which would install fear in you if it happened today? And God was there in the midst.
Now think of the fear we are going through as a world trying to beat this unseen global pandemic affecting so many people… yet God is still here in the midst.
Lift up your prayers today and ask God to let His glory shine in this time of darkness over the whole world; because He is in our midst!

1 Kings 11:34 But I will not take the whole kingdom out of Solomon’s hand; I have made him ruler all the days of his life for the sake of David my servant, whom I chose and who obeyed my commands and decrees.
I do love the way God always talked of king David as being one who always obeyed His commands and followed His decrees.
David lied, committed adultery and killed people to list a few of his shortcomings. But each time he would come back to God and beg for forgiveness and turn back to God’s ways!
God may well be Holy and cannot abide sin, but He is loving and forgiving.
Be live David and ask for forgiveness and turn back to God!

Isaiah 42:9 See, the former things have taken place, and new things I declare; before they spring into being I announce them to you.
God wrote things down to make sure we know what has been, what is and what is coming. Things have been recorded for our sake!
God does not have these things written down for Him to remember – it is for our sakes and He used prophets and kings to tell the world about what is to come.
Unfortunately, the world has been sidetracked and needs a bit of a jog now and again!
Do you listen when God gives you a bit of a jog, or do you just carry on by yourself?

Isaiah 43:19 See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.
This is the key verse which spurred me into action to do more for young people so they would not miss out on hearing the gospel message.
Many churches had become quite inward looking, not by conscious choice but simply because they could not see the opportunities being presented. A generation was missing out!
Don’t allow your own comfort blank out the need of those around you. God still wants you to reach out – even now!

John 3:30 He must become greater; I must become less.
I just love the way John ends this word – He had become quite famous for baptising so many people outside the city at the river and he knew it!
But he also knew this was going to be nothing in comparison to what Jesus was going to be like. He knew his place and knew just whom Jesus was and is!
We need to know when to stop and allow Jesus to take control. Control can be a very powerful thing and one which can corrupt us so easily…
Step aside and allow God to take the reigns!

John 3:27 To this John replied, “A person can receive only what is given them from heaven...”
Why don’t I get what I think I should have in my life? Why am I still having issues with life? Why can’t it all be smooth sailing now I’m a Christian?
We often mix up what we want in life with what we need in life and we tend to stretch what we want to make it look like we need it…
God knows exactly what we need and when we need it – He is not going to part the river when there is a perfectly good bridge for us to use…
Listen to where God calls you and try to obey.

Joshua 3:16 the water from upstream stopped flowing. It piled up in a heap a great distance away, at a town called Adam in the vicinity of Zarethan, while the water flowing down to the Sea of the Arabah (that is, the Dead Sea) was completely cut off. So the people crossed over opposite Jericho.
When we talk about the parting of the sea we almost always refer to the part in Exodus when Moses led the people out of Egypt – but it was not the only time this happened!
When Joshua was to lead the people across the Jordan river it had to be done again – but this time if a different place with different results.
The priests were to carry the ark of the covenant before the people and it would clear the way, just as God had used it to clear the way through wars and dry land.
The priests stood in the middle of the river whilst everyone walked across on dry ground! What a God we have!

Exodus 14:29 But the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left.
Why do we insist on limiting what God can do in our lives? Can you imagine walking past a wall of water!
We always try to think of things in ways we can make sense of because we live in a physical world where we are seemingly constrained by the laws of physics…
But God is not constrained by the laws of physics – so stop trying to justify what He can do by physical laws!
Pray and allow God to work freely!

Exodus 14:14 The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.
One thing I have never really liked is going shopping on a bank holiday day when you know the streets are going to be absolutely clogged with people trying to find a bargain!
Now we are all keeping ourselves at home, we have a very different Bank Holiday to look out to, one where we have to let others be in control.
When Moses led the people out of Egypt, he was told to tell them to allow God to be in control, to allow God to fight their battles.
Turn over the battles you are having and allow God to be in control!

Matthew 28:19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
Where has God asked you to go in your life? If we are brave enough to listen and obey, our lives can be changed forever!
What has God asked you do do? If we accept He can give us the power and strength to do what He asks of us, our lives can be changed forever!
What are you doing about it? And there it is… it is up to us to step up to the mark and do and go for Christ – even if that is only to go next door!

Matthew 27:35 When they had crucified him, they divided up his clothes by casting lots.
Something struck me yesterday when I saw a picture of lots of pine coffins being buried in a mass grave due to this pandemic.
We like to be able to say goodbye to people when they die, and not being able to because of the fear of spreading the virus even more is something we are all going to struggle with over the next few days or weeks.
Jesus was still hanging on the cross when these guards gambled for His clothes – the true colours of many people come out during these times.
Watch and pray!

Psalm 22:8 “He trusts in the Lord,” they say, “let the Lord rescue him. Let him deliver him, since he delights in him.”
You will always get people who ridicule you because of your beliefs and because of your faith in God; but they are the ones missing out in what we have.
Don’t leave them out of your life, try to encourage them. When they ask what keeps us going, we can tell them it is Christ. They will still ridicule us, but we have planted the seeds.
God can work in their lives once we plant the seeds. God can cultivate those seeds and bring great fruit from them.
Don’t limit God’s plan just because you are upset...

Psalm 16:1 Keep me safe, my God, for in you I take refuge.
This is such a simple word today, but one which continues to change my life. I did not realise just how much I can rely on God until I was faced with death and placed my whole being in His hands!
Before this, I would say the words and expect people to believe me even though I had not ‘really’ experienced it – but I had, I just didn’t realise it.
When we place our lives in Jesus’ hands, we are kept safe from that day forward, sometimes physically, sometimes mentally, sometimes emotionally, but always spiritually!

Genesis 32:11 Save me, I pray, from the hand of my brother Esau, for I am afraid he will come and attack me, and also the mothers with their children.
Sometimes God is going to lead you into difficult places and into situations where you may feel totally lost or helpless… but He will never lead you there alone!
Jacob was fearful for his life and the lives of everyone around him when he heard Esau was coming to see him; he was in a very uncomfortable position…
But God has plans for us we cannot imagine, plans to help us and to allow us to prosper – when we listen to Him and obey his wishes.
Times are hard, difficult, uncertain, fearful; but God is with us every step of the way. Pray.

Genesis 50:17 ‘This is what you are to say to Joseph: I ask you to forgive your brothers the sins and the wrongs they committed in treating you so badly.’ Now please forgive the sins of the servants of the God of your father.” When their message came to him, Joseph wept.
What would your reaction be if someone said you had to forgive someone for doing something against you – something you really hated!
I’m not sure what Joseph’s feelings were in the beginning, but I’m sure he was not very pleased with being sold as a slave. Now he was being asked to forgive those same people who sold him!
What would you do if God asked you to do something very difficult?

1 Samuel 2:29 Why do you scorn my sacrifice and offering that I prescribed for my dwelling? Why do you honour your sons more than me by fattening yourselves on the choice parts of every offering made by my people Israel?’
Where is your focus at during this time of self-isolation? Are you focused on getting the most out of the situation or are you focused on God?
Many people may be turning to God and begging for mercy, but what God is requiring is a heart which is willing to make a difference amongst His people, right here, right now!
Open your heart and reach out to the people who have missed out because of the greed of some, lift them up in prayer is that is the only thing you can do right now! Just do it!

Matthew 10:32 Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven.
Do you like being ignored by friends, or do you like to keep in touch and be a part of the ‘friendship circle?’
Jesus loves each one of us and wants us to be know to the Father as a child of God – so we can join everyone in Heaven!
When we are witnesses to Christ, we are pointing the way to God and because of that we will be know in Heaven as well as on earth.
Step forward and show others you know Christ as your forever friend!
