Isaiah 29:13 The Lord says: ‘These people come near to me with their mouth and honour me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is based on merely human rules they have been taught.

How vain man is to think that he could ever know more than God! And that is not me judging others but me judging myself…

There are times when I think that I know so much and I want to go and tell people about all the things I have learned; and then there are times when I realise that I know so little.

God is so much more than the knowledge and wisdom all men could come up with. He extends past everything we can comprehend and stretches further than we could ever reach. How can we ever limit His ways or His wisdom?

Colossians 2:6 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him,

It is our faith that allows us to see the beauty, majesty and glory of Christ as our Lord and Saviour. The fullness of this glorious picture is seen because of our faith in God, Jesus and His Word.

When we stand on that faith we are not tempted to go astray and live our former earthly lives but instead turn toward Him in our daily walk; that is where He wants our focus, in Him.

Our faith makes our lives whole because we receive so much more than just a belief; we receive eternal rest in Him, gladness and joy for all eternity.

John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:

By believing in the name of Jesus Christ as being the Son of God, by receiving Him as our Messiah, Saviour and Redeemer, we are filled with a glorious hope; but more than that we are given a wonderful inheritance.

We are given the inheritance of being called children of God, pardoned of our sins and sanctified by His blood.

Whilst it may be nice to think we obtain a physical inheritance from family, our spiritual inheritance is worth far more and endures for eternity rather than just a fleeting moment or two in physical life.

1 Peter 1:23 having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever

We live in a world where illness, abnormalities and all manner of things are transferred from one generation to the next; but by far the worst corruption is our sinful ways!

Unfortunately we are born into sinful ways because of our parentage; we are all sinners because of the original sin of man and nothing we do will allow us to escape.

But thanks to Christ and what He has done for us, we can be free from our sin if we are willing to accept Him as our Saviour. It is not what we do but what Christ has already done. Praise The Lord!

1 John 3:9 Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.

When we accept Christ into our lives and into our hearts we cannot help but to be changed by this. We are not re-created as a perfect being as some may read this verse, but rather that the lust for sin should be left behind.

As worldly people we invite sin into our lives and play along with it as if it is a toy. But when we really invite Christ into our lives we turn our hearts against this temptation and vow to turn from sin.

It is this willingness to turn from sin that should drive our lives from that moment on; a willingness to follow Christ.

Matthew 7:18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.

Have you ever got caught up in activities that are not lawful or not right? I know that I have been caught up in many things in my life and have turned a blind eye in many cases too; but each time my conscience told me that it was wrong!

When Jesus used these words it was to remind us that we do give in to the things around us through giving in to temptations, but those actions do not come from inside of us.

What we have in our hearts will come out and show itself and Jesus wants us to have His ways and His heart inside of our hearts.

James 3:13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom.

If we profess to be wise and to be able to understand what God would want in our lives then we need to show others – but how we go about that will define how others see us.

If we shout it out to others in a brash, spiteful or prideful manner, then we may well find that we turn people against God rather than toward the truth!

God calls us to show others His gospel in meekness of wisdom; that means giving God the glory for His wisdom and not boasting of what we can teach. It is God’s wisdom, not ours!

1 Peter 2:12 having your conduct honourable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation.

As Christians we are called to live an honest life thereby being able to obey the commandments that God has given us as much as possible.

Just the fact that we are Christians will bring up feelings against us and some will dare to speak evil against us in public.

We should not let those people get us down but rather continue demonstrating that we stand up for Christ and when the time comes our works will help to convince them that Christ is real.

1 Timothy 2:10 but, which is proper for women professing godliness, with good works.

I know I have picked a verse which some will say is controversial, but if God’s Word did not stir up our emotions then we may well not regard it with the respect we do.

I am not looking at reminding women of ‘their place’ in society because I hold them in high regard; what I do want us to look at is that if we, any of us, profess godliness then we should follow that with good works.

Christ’s example to us needs to be studied and followed so that we can strengthen our faith in Him.

Titus 2:14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.

How often we do forget all the things that others have done for us as we go about our daily lives; none more so than Christ’s price He paid for us.

He would not have done that unless He knew that it was the right thing to do and that it would last forever. His aim was not just to secure a place for us, but also to encourage us toward good works.

Good works will not save our souls, but good works should be the natural product of our accepting Christ.

Deuteronomy 4:19 And when you look up to the sky and see the sun, the moon and the stars – all the heavenly array – do not be enticed into bowing down to them and worshipping things the Lord your God has apportioned to all the nations under heaven.

It is an awesome sight to be able to look up into a star-filled sky from a position of darkness where we are not surrounded by the lights of a city; I love living in the countryside.

But do not ever forget that God is the one who has created all of what we can see. Man and his lights and other pollution is what is stopping us from seeing God’s creation.

And it is not just physically but spiritually as well as man tries to cloud the sky with his own ways instead.

Psalm 136:7 To Him who made great lights, For His mercy endures forever—

Have you ever thought what it would be like to have to live in perpetual darkness? Some people have been able to experience long periods of darkness by living and working very close to the poles, but we always know that the Sun and Moon are out there somewhere!

The sun shines brightly and brings warmth, light and life to the earth in a perfect balance that could not be made by chance without burning out or freezing out everything that came before it.

Instead, God started with everything in balance and He continues to keep it there because of His endless mercy!

Psalm 74:14 You broke the heads of Leviathan in pieces, And gave him as food to the people inhabiting the wilderness.

We may stand in awe of our amazing God and all that He has created, but we must always remember that He is the one that has given us dominion over all the earth.

That means that we do have dominion over the largest animals and mammals as well – but just because we have dominion does not mean we can spoil everything into extinction.

God wants us to be good stewards over what He has given us from the smallest insects to the largest animals and mammals because they are all His creation for us!

Psalm 104:26 There the ships sail about; There is that Leviathan which You have made to play there.

No matter how far we think we have gone in technology and in breaking physical boundaries, we do have to remember just what God has created as natural!

It has taken man a long time to get ships that can conquer the oceans and yet God created the largest mammals to roam freely in the deep oceans.

It is only in the last hundred years that man has been able to fly with relative ease, but God created birds to roam the skies freely from the beginning.

We stand in awe!

Psalm 104:24 O Jehovah, how many are Your works! In wisdom You have made them all; the earth is full of Your riches.

We do not have to know every little thing about God’s creation in order to see how wonderful it is because when we look at it as a whole, we can marvel!

Every time scientists, biologists and others dig into the intricate parts of nature we find more things that we cannot yet explain; each part being a perfect creation for the overall solution required.

Some may favour evolution but the intricate design shows me an awesome designer who has created everything – and we have only just scratched the surface!

Hebrews 11:11 And by faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she considered him faithful who had made the promise.

As your children grow up and leave home you are left with a longing to have them back; but that is nothing compared to the longing for a child should you not have one!

Abraham and Sarah had long past child-bearing age and yet God visited them to tell them they would soon be having a child. At first they were unbelieving but that quickly turned to faith as they waited patiently.

God will always deliver on His promises!

Genesis 18:14 Is anything too hard for the Lord? At the appointed time I will return to you, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.

Although we may begin to accept that God can do anything, we do expect Him to do things according to our own timeframe; we expect Him to answer prayers when we want and to do what we want!

God has given us enough examples in our history for us to realise that He answers according to what He knows is best and according to His times and not ours.

When the Lord said to Abraham that his wife would have a baby it was certainly not in their times because they thought they were both well past having children – but with God it is possible!

Luke 1:37 For with God nothing will be impossible.

Another aspect of the impossible (as seen by man) being made possible because God said so!

God is just and has never lied to us; that means we can trust in every single thing that He has said. Everything that God has said has or will come true because everything that He has said is a promise to us.

I have learned to trust in all the things that God has given us through our bibles because I see them come true. I know people have their own agendas and I know the truth is always pushed or stretched; but not so with God.

Matthew 19:26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

How many times have you heard people say that they do not deserve something or that they should not be able to get or achieve something? Some people get all hung up about not being able to be a Christian because they are so naughty or have an evil past.

Well, don’t you know that God already knows that? God is the one who does know what we get up to and He alone is the one who can make it possible.

This verse is here to remind us that it is possible for God to forgive us, no matter what the sin, as long as we believe in Him!

Luke 1:50 And His mercy is on those who fear Him From generation to generation.

When people truly fear God with a reverential fear (and not a knee knocking fear) they start doing things God’s way. When they do that, they please God.

What happens when you please your parents? Good things happen! Well if your parents can make good things happen just because you please them, think about how much more God can do when you please Him…

But don’t do it just for the reward, do it because you love Him! If you think your parents have eyes in the back of their heads, don’t tempt God!
