1 Corinthians 1:29 that no flesh should glory in His presence.

It is not our place to bring glory to ourselves in the presence of God but to glorify God; and not so that He will glorify us, but simply to glorify God.

Don’t get caught up in doing many things for God so that you can look good in the eyes of others because that is not aimed at pleasing God but pleasing yourself!

I love giving others God’s Word so that they can draw closer to God and that is my aim, to be able to usher people closer to their God.

We each have a personal relationship with God and spending time in a devotional draws us closer to Him. Rejoice in God and in Him alone!

Psalm 34:2 My soul shall make its boast in the Lord; the humble shall hear of it and be glad.

One thing we need to be doing as much as possible is giving glory to our Lord and Saviour so that other people get to hear us!

We may not be able to stand up and preach on a street corner, but we can show people that we believe in God and trust in Him!

Just seeing that glimmer of light in us may be what will turn someone round to find out about this awesome God we worship.

Don’t hide God’s light but let it shine through you daily!

Luke 12:12 For the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.

Taking the name of Christ with us everywhere we go should be what we do best in our lives; after all He is the one who has given us all we have.

It is not about what we can do best ourselves but what we allow God to do best through us!

Saying that we are working for God and actually allowing Him to guide us and teach us as we share with others are two different things.

Acts 4:13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marvelled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus.

One of the amazing things that I find about working for God is that He gives us insight into so many things if we trust in Him.

When I first started teaching youth I was so afraid that they would find me out for being just like them, only older!

But as I walk with God and trust in Him, I realise that God is the one taking care of me and giving me wisdom when I need it to deal with the things He allows into my life.

Giving Him the glory is what I do best now!

James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

One of the greatest gifts that God gave us was our ability to choose our way in life; it seems to be our curse as well.

We get led away from Him so easily because of the temptations that surround us when all we need do is listen to Him…

Asking God for guidance daily is not a sign of weakness but a sign of strength in Him.

Never be shy of asking God the right way because that way we will actually get something right!

Proverbs 3:6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

When we say we are going to trust someone we should be doing exactly that, trusting them!

It does not mean turning your back on truth and righteousness, but it does mean trusting them!

When we are brave enough to trust in God, we will need to trust in Him wholly so that He can lead us.

When we let God lead us, we then find out just how awesome He really is!

Mark 4:33 And with many such parables He spoke the word to them as they were able to hear it.

Do you find it hard to tell others about God? Do you find it hard to explain how you feel about God?

I do love to take what happens in the world around me and tell others about God through example.

God’s Word is important to us and we do need to know it and spread it; but if we can open someone else’s eyes by telling them a story first, then the seed will fall on good ground!

Take what you know best in life and apply God’s Word through that!

Matthew 18:14 Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.

When Jesus was telling the disciples about how important we are to God, He used many parables to show them how much God cares for everything, not just us.

We may act like lost sheep at times in our lives, but God never gives up on searching us out and coming to invite us back to the fold.

We do have a choice as to whether we do listen to Him coming back to safety or ignore Him and face our own dangers.

God looks after the smallest insect through to the largest mammals, caring for each, and loving us as His own.

Isaiah 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

No matter how we look at this life, we have all done things wrong; but do not get bogged down into thinking that there is not a way out of any situation.

The consequences of some things may not be to our liking, but there is always a way out.

Christ came to earth to pay the price for our sins so that we would not have to pay that price of eternal death. This does not mean there are no consequences, because the consequence was that the blame was laid on Jesus’ shoulders!

Take time out today to remember what He has done.

Psalm 119:160 The entirety of Your word is truth, and every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever.

How much of this psalm have you read after seeing these words over the past 11 days? Are you encouraged to find out more from the psalms?

I do pray that these snippets are enough to rouse your interest in God’s Word and that you start to sit and read a chapter now and again.

This is God’s Word, this is what He has inspired people to put to paper so that we can have it as a reference.

It has lasted a long time already and will continue to last forever because it is the truth!

Psalm 119:114 You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in Your word.

As very young children we have probably all played some version of tag and named a place where we are safe from being caught; that place where we all ran to so we could be safe from all harm.

God has His arms wide open waiting for us to run back into His arms where we can be safe from everything forever!

And just in case we lose our way, He gave us His Word so that we have instruction, direction and encouragement to search Him our in our busy lives!

Psalm 119:111 Your testimonies I have taken as a heritage forever, for they are the rejoicing of my heart.

One of the things that I find amazing as I teach others about God is that the bible is still the only tool that we actually need.

Yes there are all sorts of things that I use to teach with, games, computers, props and even other people; but it is the Word of God that brings delight to others.

If people ever say that they come to one of my clubs I will correct them because they come to be with God, not with me. I am just a tool used by our awesome God.

I am proud to say that I teach from the bible, His Word!

Psalm 119:72 The law of Your mouth is better to me than thousands of coins of gold and silver.

One of the best ways of accepting a good slap is studying the Word of God! That may sound counterproductive because we never go out looking to be punished in any way, but think a little.

God has been trying to teach mankind about all the pitfalls in life for a long time. Much of that time we have ignored what He has been saying.

What better way than to have it all written down so that He can show us that He has been trying over and over again.

God’s Word is the living word of God. It is not just a piece of history and it is not just something to look forward to. It is all of the past, present and future for us all!

Psalm 119:71 It is good for me that I have been afflicted, that I may learn Your statutes.

Sometimes we have to be “slapped” so that we will stop and listen! And yes it does work when someone gives you a slap to make you stop and listen!

But the more we live with God the more we should realise that it is not just the physical slaps we get that should shape our lives. Listening to God will open your eyes even more.

When something goes wrong we should not just ignore it and move on but think a little before moving on. Don’t get stuck up in all your failures, but equally, don’t ignore them!

God works in all aspects of our lives so we should be listening to Him in all aspects as well!

Psalm 119:49 Remember the word to Your servant, upon which You have caused me to hope.

As if God needs reminding! Well, it is not for God that we lift up our prayers but for us and for others; so David’s prayer to ask God to not forget was really for his own benefit.

What God has said is a promise because He does not tell lies and He does not change, but we change and we make things difficult. So by lifting up this prayer it is as much a reminder to us to not forget that God has promised!

God gave us His Word so that we could have something to believe on and something to give us hope as we see His promises unfolding in our lives.

Take hold of those promises and keep reminding yourself!

Psalm 119:34 Give me understanding, and I shall keep Your law; indeed, I shall observe it with my whole heart.

Before each of us knew Christ we did not truly know His ways. Some, like Paul, have a vast knowledge of the law but do not really know Christ.

I talk about knowing Christ here as a heart knowledge rather than a head knowledge because without that heart knowledge we will not seek to follow Christ; instead we will continue to follow the world.

Here, David asks for that understanding that God can give him so that he can apply God’s Law successfully into his life and live for Christ rather than the world.

Psalm 119:29 Remove from me the way of lying, and grant me Your law graciously.

One thing that I found hard to do was to turn away from lying after I became a Christian; I had been too used to embellishing on everything!

If we want to be able to turn our lives round, we are going to have to have someone who can help us because our strength alone is just not enough.

Christ wants to guide us and protect us, but that means making sure that we ask for His help every step of the way. That also means getting to grips with His Word so that we know the way. Hold on tight!

Psalm 119:22 Remove from me reproach and contempt, for I have kept Your testimonies.

Even though we read God’s Word and try to understand it, we are still who we are, we are still human beings.

When other people get on our nerves, we get upset. When other people work against us, we get down and resentment starts creeping in.

God has required of us that we love our enemies. That is a very hard thing to come to terms with as human beings. But when we give our situations to God, He can change our hearts to give us room for love when we cannot find any.

Allow God to change your heart when you cannot.

Psalm 119:9 How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.

Young men are typically prone to some vices and have been throughout time. David cries out here for all young men as a way of encouragement.

God has shown us that we can keep His Word if we really want to. The temptations, especially in our younger years, seem too varied and too many to resist.

But If we do keep God’s Word in our hearts and in our minds, we will be less prone to give in to those temptations that seem to surround and engulf us.

Psalm 119:2 Happy are they who observe his decrees and seek him with all their hearts!

We have our bibles and they tell us what God wants us to know. They are true records of the words written down by the prophets from the past of the words given to them by God.

If we have any sense we would keep to those words! It is easy to listen to nice words and follow them, but it may be hard to follow the truth.

God has given us His Word for a reason; to follow it. That is why He will bless us when we do!
