2 Timothy 4:5 But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfil your ministry.
Work for a Christian can mean many things; but all of those things should be focused on Christ.
Sometimes we have to ensure stuff which we think we should not have to, not because we are getting punished for stuff but simply because the world and the people around us may not care for us like we care for them.
God is just and will enable us to do His work if we are willing to listen to His guidance. It is His will that we should obey Him and worship Him with our lives.
Trust Him!

2 Timothy 2:3 You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
I wonder how many times you have been told you have to endure things just because you are a Christian; well it is not just because you are a Christian!
Why do soldiers go through so much grief in their training? They do that to best prepare them for the job ahead!
Christ may allow various things into our lives which we really do not like; but they may well be what we need in order to prepare us for what lies ahead of us.

2 Timothy 1:8 Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God,
It is easy to listen to someone telling you how you must not be afraid, and then find it so very difficult to actually not be afraid when faced with danger!
God’s protection for us is very real and you may not get to experience that if you are lucky. I would not wish anything bad on anyone who does not know that protection.
I know I used to be sceptical when people first started telling me of this great protection God had to offer; I mean, how can someone invisible do anything for me?
Trust God and believe in Him. Don’t wait until it all goes wrong before believing…

Matthew 10:18 You will be brought before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles.
Who do you think God will use to reach to the people who are in charge of countries and kingdoms?
Will He try and find a bigger and more important king or leader than them or will He use people who are available?
God can use us to reach even the most important people in the world. Even they can look at us and be inspired if we are willing to be more like Christ!
Change a little. Shine a little. Let God use you properly!

Luke 21:13 But it will turn out for you as an occasion for testimony.
We may well go through trials in our lives and wonder how they happen or why they happen because we think God should be looking after us all the time…
Well, God is watching us always and is always with us, but we still live in a broken world where things go wrong.
Sometimes things can be used for good even though they appear so bad on the surface. We can always try to find a positive side to things going wrong in our lives – even if it is only to show people we have to trust God no matter what happens in our lives!

Matthew 8:4 And Jesus said to him, “See that you tell no one; but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”
Even though Jesus healed the lepers completely from leprosy He still told them to go through the proper channels to get themselves “signed off” as being well.
Jesus may well do miracles and go against what the world knows is possible, but He will not go against God’s Word.
We can be sure Christ is in it if we know what is happening is happening within the bounds of God’s Word.
Believe Christ can do anything but make sure you stick to God’s Word whilst doing that!

Matthew 5:23 Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you,
What is your attitude toward doing things for God? Or for giving things to God?
We may well straighten out our prayer life and start praying with the right attitude, but unless we are doing the same in our lives we are fooling ourselves only.
God wants us to be good examples for Him; people who can give a good account of Christ through their actions as well as through their words.
If you have anything against anyone, try straighten it out before it brings you down as well.

1 Timothy 2:8 I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting;
Have you ever thought about how people pray around the world? Not the way they stand, bow down, kneel or lay down but their attitude.
The first thing which caught me in this verse when I read it today was the words “without wrath and doubting”.
Often when we do not get our own way we tend to be very vocal about things and say things we may not mean.
Are we doing the same toward God in our prayer life? Are we arguing with God instead of praising and pleading?

Psalm 141:2 Let my prayer be set before You as incense, The lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
Can you imagine what it must have been like in the days of regular offerings of incense and sacrifices? You would be able to smell the incense every morning and the sacrifices at the appropriate times.
They would be a very visible and tangible mark of respect for God; something that may well seem like it is lost in modern society.
The psalmist wants his prayers to have the same perceived importance as the age old sacrificial offerings; not because he wants others to see his prayers but that God should look upon them with the same importance.
He does!

Psalm 134:2 Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, And bless the Lord.
What use is a priest or church leader who gets up and just says a bunch of words and calls it a prayer?
What use is it if we read something out of a book and don’t mean it in our hearts?
God wants this relationship between Him and us to be open and Honest. This means talking to Him from the heart and not from a page!
How do you show God you mean what you say in your prayers?

Psalm 63:4 Thus I will bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name.
Loving God is not just about saying you love Him or about loving Him when everything goes your way; loving God is a whole hearted, full time and total commitment between you and God.
There is no way God is going to back down. Why should you?
Love is a commitment that requires more than just a bunch of flowers now and again or a letter or card. Love requires a whole lot more.
Being willing to protect your love against others and against the evil around us should be the norm.
Prayer when expressed properly and with your whole heart shows real love.

Solomon 1:2 Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth—For your love is better than wine.
How do we measure love? Love is one of those things we don’t really have a good measure for so we tend to try and relate it to the physical ways in which we show love.
I know I have had many a time in my life when I just wanted a kiss or even a hug to let me know someone else’s feelings; but the physical is not always the truth!
Being in love is far better than any quick hit we can get from most other things and expressed here in the beginning of this wonderful love story.

Psalm 119:53 Indignation has taken hold of me Because of the wicked, who forsake Your law.
How do you feel when you see someone doing something evil? I know we have many films and stuff on show about people doing evil things, but actually seeing someone in person doing something evil is still not nice to see!
The psalmist write here of the horror and trembling they felt just by seeing what others were getting up to.
The people knew the law as God has described it, and yet they chose to do something wrong instead.
Choose to be different today and make someone feel good by doing good instead of bad.

Luke 19:41 Now as He drew near, He saw the city and wept over it,
When Jesus came to look over Jerusalem He stopped and wept at the sight. Not at the sight of a built up city but at the knowledge of all the evil and sin the city was hiding.
We cannot see sin and evil, but we can see the results of them. We cannot see good either, but again we see the results of it.
Jesus had special knowledge of what was going on because He is the Son of God and knew these things.
We need to depend on seeing the results of things; so set an example and allow people to see the results of God in your life!

Genesis 6:6 And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.
How long do you put up with something before you say “stop” or back off?
No matter how much we think we can put up with bad things there is always a limit and we either break or we blow up against those things.
God may well be willing to forgive almost anything, but if we continue to be in His face with all the bad stuff in our lives, we should expect Him to reach a point where He will stop what we are doing!

Ecclesiastes 7:29 Truly, this only I have found: That God made man upright, But they have sought out many schemes.
God did make us upright and truthful in the beginning, but through our own thoughts, desires and devices we have become evil and corrupt.
In the beginning man had no problem talking directly with God because he had done nothing wrong; but as soon as man went his own way God had to stop associating with Him.
God cannot abide evil, but he is still willing to listen to us to see what we have to say for ourselves. God is Just.
Be honest and talk openly to Him today!

Psalm 99:8 You answered them, O Lord our God; You were to them God-Who-Forgives, Though You took vengeance on their deeds.
Praying to God is so important but something too many of us either take for granted or just never get round to it each day!
We read about so many cases in our Bibles where God forgave the people after they did terrible things; everyday people through to kings and prophets!
We do also see many times where the people had to put up with the consequences of their actions, some blaming God and others wondering why…
God is just. We need to stay in constant contact with Him so we can know His will in our lives.

Matthew 12:50 For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother.
There is no way we can be so obedient and righteous as to be able to follow the will of God, but having the heart to want to do so is what God is looking for.
It is God in Heaven who is watching and allowing us to learn all we need to know about Him. He sent Jesus down to us to be the interaction we needed to fully learn His will in our lives.
God looks on us as brothers and sisters because we are willing to try and do His will every day of our lives.

John 14:15 If you love Me, keep My commandments.
What would you do just because you love someone that much?
I know this is a subjective question but we do often go out of our way to do things for people we love.
God has told us to love our neighbours. Have you ever tried to link these two verses together? How far should we be going to help others out?
We should set an example this year by following our Lord’s example and doing acts of kindness toward those around us; just because they are His.

John 15:14 You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.
What would you be willing to do for a friend? Would you be willing to break the law? Would it be right to break the law for a friend?
Friendship is a very complex thing which drives us to do things we may not have thought about before; but true friendship should never require us to do anything wrong.
God’s request is quite simple as Jesus told us: Obey my law.
God has been trying to get His people to obey His law for a long time because He knows it is the best thing for us all. Are you willing to obey?
