Proverbs 18:24 A man who has friends must himself be friendly, But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
If you want to be able to have friends, then you have to show you are friendly; sound so basic when said like that but a fact many people do forget about.
We cannot expect to have many friends around us just because we think we deserve it. Friends come to those who are friendly to them.
How would you class your relationship with Christ? Would you say you have been friendly toward Him or have you let Him down a bit lately?

Isaiah 57:1 The righteous perishes, And no man takes it to heart; Merciful men are taken away, While no one considers That the righteous is taken away from evil.
I think we can all admit to looking at our lives an wondering if we are actually safe from eternal death. Yes I know I have eternal life and I know nothing can take that away from me… but I still have moments of anxiousness.
We all have to die at some stage because our bodies are mortal and God has deemed it so. We struggle when we see good people die from terrible things because that makes us wonder why.
Just maybe God has taken them home because He knows what is ahead in that person’s life and wants them to not go through it…

Ecclesiastes 7:1 A good name is better than precious ointment, And the day of death than the day of one’s birth;
When do you aim at getting a good name? Do you wait until the day before you die and then try and make it all good?
Most of us do not get to know the day we are going to die. Most of us do not get to any point where we can make it all good overnight!
Making a good name for yourself is hard work and you will need a lot of help along the way.
God wants each of us to not just know Him better but to be able to have a good relationship with Him which is infectious and we want to spread to those around us. Share it today!

Proverbs 22:1 A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, Loving favour rather than silver and gold.
What makes an entrepreneur successful? Is it the money backing them, the money they are willing to spend, the time and effort they are willing to spend or just what they can get out of life?
Don’t get caught up in trying to work the answer out because there is no simple answer. Each of us will work differently to reach our goals in life.
God would like us to work honestly and hard to achieve what we can rather than cheating people out of as much as possible to make the biggest profit.
Jesus was not rich in monetary terms, but He certainly was rich in God’s eyes!

Job 34:19 Yet He is not partial to princes, Nor does He regard the rich more than the poor; For they are all the work of His hands.
One of the things I find hardest to accept is that Christ loves each one of us no matter what station we are at in this world.
I struggle to accept some people in my life just because they are either so obnoxious or they are from a totally different lifestyle to me; but God does not have that problem!
God can use each one of us no matter where we are and no matter where we stand in society. I love the fact that He uses former criminals to spread His honest and abiding word!

Psalm 49:2 Both low and high, Rich and poor together.
When you want to go and tell people about God, who do you go to? Friends, relatives, strangers, rich people, poor people?
We seem to be more comfortable talking to people who fit into a stereotype at times than talking to a wide range of people. Why so?
God did not tell us to go forward and spread the Gospel message with those we feel comfortable with; he said go out into all the world!
Let go of the stereotypical listener you have in your mind and reach out to the person next to you instead!

Psalm 62:9 Surely men of low degree are a vapour, Men of high degree are a lie; If they are weighed on the scales, They are altogether lighter than vapour.
We like to think we have classes of people from the working classes through to the nobility; but in fact each one of us is a person.
Many people will not give down-and-out people a second thought or will totally ignore beggars on the street just because they look different.
We are so fickle in our world and yet Christ is able to look through that all and judge us according to what we are inside rather than the outward appearance.

Job 11:11 For He knows deceitful men; He sees wickedness also. Will He not then consider it?
We cannot hide things from God because He knows and sees all. That may well be a frightening thought for many people but don’t think about the consequences of your actions; rather think about how God feels about what He can see.
Think about how you feel when you see someone doing something wrong. Think about how you feel when you see someone steal something. Think about how you feel when you see someone break the rules.
Now imagine if that person is your best friend. That is getting close to how God feels.

Psalm 94:11 The Lord knows the thoughts of man, That they are futile.
Our deep thoughts about wisdom, theology, philosophy and other intellectually focused things are but nothing compared to God’s thoughts for us.
We may like to think our deep musings of all thinks like that are highly sought after or deeper and more meaningful than others people, but they are nothing compared to God’s thoughts.
We like to think of ourselves as highly intellectual because God said we should be overseers of the land; we may be in comparison to the other mammals and animals, but not in comparison to God.
And yet God’s thoughts for us are deeper than this all!

Psalm 139:18 If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand; When I awake, I am still with You.
We can never really understand just how much God loves us or how much He thinks of us, but the psalmist tries to give us a bit of an insight.
If we try to count the number of thoughts God has of us they would far outnumber the grains of sand on a beach.
Whilst that may sound like a bit of a dream, no matter whether we are awake or asleep, God continues to be with us. No thought is too great for Him. No dream too high for Him.

Psalm 16:8 I have set the Lord always before me; Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.
We don’t often think about keeping the right person at our right hand anymore like they did back when this was written; but we do think of keeping the right people in our lives still.
If we are willing to keep God in our lives at all times, we are guaranteed of keeping the right person in our lives; He wants to be able to guide us and keep us continually.
Setting God before us should simply mean keeping our eyes on Him and His ways at all times.

Psalm 37:23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, And He delights in his way.
God is more than willing to lead us every step we are willing to allow Him to lead us; but we have issues with giving other people control of our lives!
I have tried to give God as much control of my life lately but I have found it very difficult.
Listening to God amongst the clamour of the world is hard. Obeying God even when we are convinced He may have made a mistake is a challenge.
Trusting God and having faith He knows what you want is something we need to aspire to!

Jeremiah 10:23 O Lord, I know the way of man is not in himself; It is not in man who walks to direct his own steps.
No matter how much we think we are in total control of everything in our lives, God is the one who is guiding and placing our feet in the right places!
It is not what we do physically that always dictates which way we go but the spiritual side who may well change the universe right here and right now!
God is trying to dictate every step we take, but each step can be protected and encouraged through Christ!

Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding;
If we were to trust in God as much as we could trust in any person, then we would fall short of the mark!
God wants us to trust in Him further and beyond anything we can trust in on earth because our version of faith or trust falls short of God’s definition of it.
God’s understanding is far and beyond anything we can grasp in our minds or even in our hearts.
These words are meant to inspire us to look for more in our relationship with God than we can understand with anyone on earth!

John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.
One of the most amazing things is the fact God has chosen each one of us to be the way we are. Yes, we have got a choice as to how we react to things in our lives, but God has pointed us on each of our unique journeys.
We may struggle to understand how someone can give up everything for someone else until we find out how special love is; but when someone gives up their lives for every bad person in this world, that amazes me.
God is special and so are each one of us!

Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
It’s not just that Christ said He loved us or the fact He died for us. It is because this all happened before we even knew Him properly.
He has known us from the beginning and even though He knew how we would act in our lives, He still went ahead and gave His life for us!
I know I struggle with doing things for people when I know they are going to be rude, unkind or disrespectful toward me; but Christ still stepped forward in pure love.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
My first memory of this verse was learning it for confirmation classes when I was young; but the real treasure held in the verse only came to me when I was a few years older.
This is God’s one and only Son who was willingly given for us; that is how much God loves us and cares for us.
Being willing to give your own life for others is something easier said than done. Jesus had time to sit and think about what He was doing; it was not a spur of the moment reaction.

Psalm 12:6 The words of the Lord are pure words, Like silver tried in a furnace of earth, Purified seven times.
Have you ever tried to purify or change something by applying heat to it? Simple things like making jam or fudge rely on a lot of heat being applied at the right amount to change the food being cooked.
Too much heat and the food will get burned. Too little heat and it will not change into what you are trying to make.
God has supplied us with just the right amount in our Bibles for us to get to know Him in the right way. Not too much that we get drowned in details and not too little that we lose sight of Him.
Think about how He could do that for the same words to be just right for so many people all around the world…

Proverbs 30:5 Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.
When someone says the Word of God is without error, how can we believe them knowing that the Bible was written by people?
The answer is that the words may well be penned by people but the inspiration came from God.
God is the one who will look after us, not God’s Word. You cannot expect God’s word to fill the place of God, but we can expect God to back up His word.
Through His power and grace we expect our faith to be rewarded and fulfilled.

Isaiah 29:13 Therefore the Lord said: “Inasmuch as these people draw near with their mouths And honour Me with their lips, But have removed their hearts far from Me, And their fear toward Me is taught by the commandment of men,
Honouring God means a whole lot more than just telling others you love God or just going to church faithfully or even giving all your money to the poor and needy.
Honouring God is all about being in a proper and meaningful relationship with God.
God wants us to be honest with ourselves and with Him. He knows our thoughts and our feelings so pretending with anything else is only fooling ourselves.
