James 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.
A tree is so much more than the show of branches, leaves and even flowers it displays above ground!
In order for that tree to survive it has to put down some pretty awesome roots to bring up the goodness and minerals required to survive and expand.
In order for us to show our compassion and kindness God would have us display, we have to send our roots deep down in the goodness, mercy and trust He lays down for us.
Our roots may be humble in comparison to what comes out the top, but those humble beginnings will allow great trees of faith to grow which will encourage others!

Psalm 32:9 Do not be like the horse or like the mule, Which have no understanding, Which must be harnessed with bit and bridle, Else they will not come near you.
Being stubborn and not accepting God’s ways just because the world says so is not wise. We do not have to be controlled by the world or by mankind, we are free to choose to follow Christ and His ways.
The world continue to try and dictate how we should live our lives and governments try to control people to make their jobs easier or more profitable; we do not have to follow those ways.
God instructs us to keep the law and follow His ways because He knows His ways are best for us all. We do have a choice.

Ephesians 2:3 among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.
No matter how perfect we think we are there are always things which we can find wrong with ourselves or with others.
We were probably blissfully unaware we were that bad before God opened our eyes to how much we were doing things wrong; we may well have been simply doing what we thought was right at the time, but that did not make it right!
The most amazing thing to me is that God continues to love us even after we have messed things up good and proper!

Ephesians 2:2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience
Who is it that makes you do things wrong? Who is it that gets you to break the rules and sin against God? Who do you blame?
The first person who pops into my head when someone asks this is Satan because he is the master of all things evil and of all temptations in this world.
We are actually to blame. We are the ones who choose to do wrong and choose to break the rules. He is the one who knows all the tricks of the trade to get you to ignore the rules.
He no longer has power over you. You can break free. You are free.

Ephesians 2:1 And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins,
When we accept Christ as our Lord and Saviour we are accepting Him as our forgiver and guide to a new life.
He has changed the rules, changed the outcome and given us true hope in a world which has broken us and shoved us out the door.
We walk away from God without realising it and we walk in the ways of the world because everybody around us seems to be doing the same.
We do have a choice and we do need to make a conscious decision to change our ways back to God’s ways.

Proverbs 21:8 The way of a guilty man is perverse; But as for the pure, his work is right.
Have you ever wondered how some people can live with themselves after seeing just how wicked or guilty they are?
I do find it difficult to imagine how some people can accept the way they live or act and find it difficult to see how they can remain oblivious to other people’s feelings and needs.
But when we are willing to accept God’s rules and laws and act accordingly, our ways are also righteous.
God does want us to be good example and honest and upright people; this will give us the best chance of living a life which will bless others instead of cursing them.

Isaiah 55:8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.
Thoughts are a part of life; there is nothing abnormal about having thoughts and working them through your mind.
But each one of us is very different and our thoughts and the way we think are very different to each other’s. Trying to think like someone else is almost impossible.
God’s thoughts run so much deeper and further than anything we can or do think.
Now think of God’s ways being as different as our thoughts are to anyone else’s thoughts…

Psalm 139:17 How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them!
What makes something precious? Probably the fact it is of limited availability or hard to get. So what makes God’s thoughts for us precious?
We cannot hope to understand His thoughts for us and we cannot hope to wonder why He should be thinking of us; but He does.
The following verse describes the number of them as being greater than the number of grains of sand.
God is truly amazing and full of love!

Psalm 139:14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvellous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.
One of the things I found as a youngster was knowing there must be something or someone out there who is in control of things because nobody around me seemed to see the big picture and know enough.
Somehow we know there is a God even before we get to know Him. We know we have something to look forward to even before we get to know Him.
When we do get to know Christ we then begin to understand how much He loves us through seeing how much He is responsible for in our lives.

Exodus 15:11 Who is like You, O Lord, among the gods? Who is like You, glorious in holiness, Fearful in praises, doing wonders?
There is no other god who is anything like our Awesome God!
No matter which way you would like to approach the argument no other god lives up to the name of Christ.
Our God alone stands firm as a perfect foundation upon which is built everything that exists.
Our God alone is holy and worthy of being praised every day and always.

Psalm 99:9 Exalt the Lord our God, And worship at His holy hill; For the Lord our God is holy.
We have been born to worship Christ and yet so many choose not to worship Him and not to come out to church services.
It is God’s will for us to come out and join in with worshipping God a one big family in Christ.
Right from the beginning God has wanted us to join Him with conversation and praise.
Don’t turn away from worshipping God just because others do not do it the same way as you want to – Just praise Him and spend personal time with Him alone.

Isaiah 66:1 Thus says the Lord: “Heaven is My throne, And earth is My footstool. Where is the house that you will build Me? And where is the place of My rest?
Christ has risen back to Heaven to be with God the Father. There He prepares a place for each person who believe in Him.
He is no longer bound to earth as He was when He lived amongst us as a mortal man.
Man prepared a place for God to be with us when Moses was leading the people out of Egypt. Man prepared a place to lay the body of Christ.
But where are they now? Nobody is quite sure because they belong to the earth; but we, like Christ, belong in Heaven with our awesome God!

2 Chronicles 2:6 But who is able to build Him a temple, since heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain Him? Who am I then, that I should build Him a temple, except to burn sacrifice before Him?
What does the church building look like which you attend? Is it modern, ancient, purpose-built or shared with others?
We cannot really build any building big enough or posh enough to contain God or to be worthy of holding God; but still we do.
We build buildings to try and give God glory or to house enough people willing to worship God together.
Don’t lose focus on who God is by going to the biggest and best building you can find – seek God wherever you go.

Hebrews 1:3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
We need to know and see Christ as being the brightness of God’s glory and the image of God Himself.
It may be hard to think of God as a person, or it may be easier for you to think of God as a person; whichever is easier for you to hold on to, do so.
Upholding God’s ways may not be easy for us, but doing so will continue to give Him the glory He alone deserves.
This we see by knowing Christ is sitting with God in Heaven right now! He has the full glory of God because He is God!

Job 38:4 Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding.
When we build a house it is good to have firm foundations to build it upon; thereby keeping it safe and immovable.
What foundation is the earth built on? Is it not a planet spinning in space? Hardly firm…
The foundation talked of here is Christ Himself. The same Christ who came to earth to lay down His life. The same Christ who spoke the world into existence.
We may not understand foundations and how important they are, but we know they are there and they are strong and firm!

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
No matter how you look at this sentence; whether as what was said by Neil Armstrong as he stepped onto the moon or whether you look at it as what you have learned from studying God’s Word, it still must have a big impact!
No matter how you view creation, we stand on an awesome planet which has a beginning somewhere and sometime.
I prefer to look at this universe as being a creation which is tending toward chaos as we go our own way.
God exists and God is in control of this universe; we are having a profound influence on it because we have a choice!

Genesis 6:3 And the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.”
Who was God speaking to saying these words? We can only guess this is what is being said between the Holy Trinity.
This is the decision point after which mankind has a big problem; and that is living up to God’s expectations!
God knows what we are capable of and what we can endure. He points us in the right direction for us to achieve the most; and yet we choose to achieve only so much.
It is little wonder then we have a finite timespan placed on our lives rather than being able to continue to mess things up for eternity!

Psalm 81:12 So I gave them over to their own stubborn heart, To walk in their own counsels.
As a parent it is sometimes difficult to deal with new situations with your children simply because you have not had to deal with anything like that before.
When children do not listen to parents or guardians they often find themselves in difficult places. Why? Because control has been lost somewhere along the line.
God may stop us in our tracks for us to learn what is wrong with what we are doing. Stop and listen! God is watching and wants to help us but we have to be willing to listen.

Isaiah 28:11 For with stammering lips and another tongue He will speak to this people,
How do you speak to babies? How do you speak to people with special needs? Each of us will probably choose to speak in a different manner in these cases.
We may see others talking to people with special needs and wonder at their effectiveness at reaching those people because we may think we lack the right manner of speaking to them.
God chose the right people to talk to His people to get the right reaction. He has chosen you. Are you listening to what He wants of you?

1 Corinthians 14:21 In the law it is written: “With men of other tongues and other lips I will speak to this people; And yet, for all that, they will not hear Me,” says the Lord.
Don’t despair when you try to tell someone about God and they just don’t get it! Even Jesus told the disciples there would be people who just don’t believe or who never understand.
It is not out task to get every person to believe the Gospel; we just need to give them the chance at hearing it. God is going to be working in their hearts.
Talking with people and not talking at people will go a long way to reaching them with the Gospel.
Sit down and talk with people and allow God to reach into their hearts.
