1 Corinthians 4:10 We are fools for Christ, but you are so wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are honoured, we are dishonoured!
One of the things Paul tried to teach others was to not hold themselves up above others!
We may be children of God, but we must imitate Christ in becoming servants to all.
God alone is held up above us, though He because man and servant to us to demonstrate His love for us...

Luke 14:28 Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it?
What sort of effort do you put in to doing things for yourself – things which you want in your life?
When we want to build something or make something, we go about it by making sure we have the right stuff and the right methods…
Why then should we not make sure we have the right stuff and methods for ensuring Christ is always in our lives?

Psalm 5:7 But I, by your great love, can come into your house; in reverence I bow down towards your holy temple.
The greatest gift God gave us was His Son; through Jesus’ death on the cross we are able to come into the presence of God in Heaven.
Even though God cannot abide sin, and we are sinners, Jesus paid our sin debt on the cross enabling us free passage into Heaven.
So what is stopping everyone from going into Heaven? Unbelief in what Christ has done!

Psalm 149:4 For the Lord takes delight in his people; he crowns the humble with victory.
How do you go about talking with God? Do you stand up and demand things from Him expecting Him to answer everything?
Or do you humble yourself before Him without shouting about it in front of everyone? Do you spend time waiting for Him to answer?
God is going to answer you when you are willing to humble yourself before Him and others!

Psalm 45:11 Let the king be enthralled by your beauty; honour him, for he is your lord.
What do you strive to achieve in your life here on earth? Do you strive to look good to other people?
Our aim should be to look good for Christ and to try to please Him with everything we do and say.
We can fully honour Him by following His will in our lives and obeying Him with everything – body and soul!

1 Corinthians 8:9 Be careful, however, that the exercise of your rights does not become a stumbling-block to the weak.
The more we learn about God and His will in our lives, the more we need to be aware of how others see us…
If we know we are doing something wrong and others see us, they may think it is ok to do what we are doing; but we know it is wrong!
Be the example and don’t just talk about being the example!

Psalm 84:1 How lovely is your dwelling-place, Lord Almighty!
As we mourn the death of our Queen, we remember her Christian faith and her dwelling place now.
She reminded us of the light which no darkness can overcome and the love we have for one another – a love built into us by God.
May Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II rest in peace and rise in glory.

Psalm 116:15 Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his faithful servants.
If we are able to stay a good and faithful servant to Christ our King, He will look at us as being precious to Him on our passing.
I am lucky to have known many good and faithful servants before they died, and I have gained immense support and peace after they passed.
To be remembered as a good and faithful servant, we need to listen and obey Christ.

Psalm 14:1 The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God.’ They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good.
During my time in hospital over the past few years I have seen a marked difference between those who believe in God and those who have no faith.
The faith we have as Christians gives us a hope which goes beyond science and logic.
The people who were always happiest, be it patients, doctors or nurses, were the ones who had faith and depended on it.
Try it!

1 Corinthians 11:18 In the first place, I hear that when you come together as a church, there are divisions among you, and to some extent I believe it.
What are you like when you get together with other Christians for a Sunday service?
What are you like when you are apart from other Christians and not in a Sunday service?
If you are very different – why? If you act differently – are you a good example of a Christian?

Psalm 100:5 For the Lord is good and his love endures for ever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.
It is not your fault others around you do things wrong. It is not your fault your friends and family do things wrong…
Each of us has our own choice to follow Christ, and when we do, God is willing and able to bless us and our friends and family if He so wishes!
Trust God to be faithful and merciful, just as He has promised.

Philippians 2:8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death – even death on a cross!
Jesus gave it all up for us on the cross. He lowered Himself to be a human being, and humbled Himself by coming forward as our servant!
He did this all because of God’s great love for us and out of obedience to God the Father.
What will you do with your life to show God you love Him?

1 Corinthians 15:6 After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep.
We have a hard time believing some people when they tell us something and Jesus knew this!
He appeared to the most important humans in His life after His death and then started appearing to more and more people.
He wanted enough people to know the truth so they would be able to convince others of this truth...

Psalm 17:5 My steps have held to your paths; my feet have not stumbled.
When the psalmist wrote this psalm, it was not just a plea for God to help and keep them, but a declaration of their love for God too.
How did they show their love to God, by doing God’s will and continuing to follow His ways all the time.
The more we stick to God’s ways in our lives, the more we will find it is easier not to give in to the temptations of the world around us!

1 Corinthians 15:42 So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable;
Every living being on earth is different. We are different to animals. We are different to fish and birds.
And then, when we die in our physical bodies, we are raised up in our spiritual bodies – very different again!
Our physical bodies all have a limited lifespan no matter what we are: fish, bird, animal or mammal; but our spiritual bodies are eternal!

Jeremiah 8:21 Since my people are crushed, I am crushed; I mourn, and horror grips me.
Do you have compassion for all the people around you or do you pick and choose who you have compassion for?
God wants us to have compassion fro all His people – and that includes people we may look at as being our enemies at times!
If we are not crushed when the people around us feel crushed, then do we actually have compassion for them?

1 Timothy 6:7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.
Today we witness a state funeral in the United Kingdom which will probably be beyond our dreams; we say our final goodbye to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Though one of the richest people in the world in terms of earthly wealth, she remains one of the richest people in terms of Heavenly wealth because of her faith in Christ.
Queen Elizabeth leaves behind riches some can only dream of, but gains heavenly riches none of us can dream of!

Luke 8:21 He replied, ‘My mother and brothers are those who hear God’s word and put it into practice.’
Often we hear that small quiet voice telling us to do something but ignore it because it’s not fun or profitable in our eyes!
God tries to speak to us all the time through the Holy Spirit, which means we should listen to that small voice!
Once we start listening to Him, we can obey Him and do God’s will in our lives!

Psalm 119:66 Teach me knowledge and good judgment, for I trust your commands.
The more we are willing to learn God’s ways, the more ways we will find of being able to worship Him.
Worship is not just singing songs in a church building on Sundays; worship is acknowledging God in any way you can!
Give God the glory for the things you are able to do and allow others to join you and enjoy it too!

Psalm 90:1 Lord, you have been our dwelling-place throughout all generations.
What has been the one constant all throughout the age of the earth? Time!
What has been constant before time and what will be constant after time? God!
Are you aiming at the limited constant of time, or the eternal constant of God?
