Proverbs 30:17 The eye that mocks his father, and scorns obedience to his mother, the ravens of the valley will pick it out, and the young eagles will eat it.

Not a pleasant though to think first thing in the morning, but one that needs to be a reminder for us every day nonetheless.

Throughout the Bible God has demonstrated what obedience is and how important it is. Throughout those times man has demonstrated lack of obedience and the consequences of that.

We may not have the ravens and eagles actually come and pluck our eyes out but we may well wish that be true rather than face the consequences we may have to face because of our disobedience.

Trust God and obey Him just as we learn to trust our parents and obey them.

Malachi 1:6 “A son honours his father, And a servant his master. If then I am the Father, Where is My honour? And if I am a Master, Where is My reverence? Says the Lord of hosts To you priests who despise My name. Yet you say, ‘In what way have we despised Your name?’

God has every right to complain about the lack of honour and respect for Him from all of us.

In the beginning there was honour and respect from mankind toward God because they saw what He was capable of; yet how quickly we forget because we do not personally see that.

We still have some love and respect in families and in relationships, but many people have not got that same respect or fear of God.

Do not lose sight of God just because you cannot physically see Him. Remember God. Fear God. Love God.

John 5:23 that all should honour the Son just as they honour the Father. He who does not honour the Son does not honour the Father who sent Him.

Jesus did not seek praise and worship in the same self-gratifying way we do but lifted up His Father at all times whilst admitting that He was equal to God.

This caused a lot of upset amongst the religious leaders at the time because they did not want to accept that Jesus would lower Himself to such an extent that He did.

How else could Jesus show His absolute love for us than by making Himself equal to man and well as being equal to God?

If Jesus could do that, why can’t we show Him the love and respect due Him?

Acts 10:26 But Peter lifted him up, saying, “Stand up; I myself am also a man.”

How do you take praise and adoration? When we look at so many of the pop stars or film stars of this world we see people who are living for worship.

God has not raised us to be worshiped but to worship. He does not require that we build up the biggest following ever so that we can be proud of what we do.

If you are willing to read your bible then you should be willing to give that truth out to others. When you do that you are not promoting the way you can do things but rather what God has done and can do.

Live for Christ and not for yourself!

Revelation 19:10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “See that you do not do that! I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”

When John tried to bow down and worship whomever was telling him these things he was told to stop that and save the worship for God Himself.

Often in our lives we lift up a person in charge beyond where we should. They take on a level of importance in our lives that then challenges the position God should be.

So let us remember that Jesus lowered Himself to the position of a servant to make sure we lift up our praise to God alone.

Yes, Jesus is the Son of God, but just to make sure we get no false ideas we need to remember that we worship one true God!

Genesis 16:6 So Abram said to Sarai, “Indeed your maid is in your hand; do to her as you please.” And when Sarai dealt harshly with her, she fled from her presence.

When Abram gave permission to Sarai to deal with Hagar, it was not permission to take her life or to be evil toward her.

Sarai exercised her right (well within her rights according to the law of that day) to be harsh toward Hagar and as a result Hagar ran away.

When we do things that are not right, other people get hurt as well as us. Think about the results of your actions and just maybe your actions may be more in line with God’s will…

Job 1:12 And the Lord said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your power; only do not lay a hand on his person.” So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord.

I’m pretty sure this is one of those passages that many cannot get their minds round because it looks like God is allowing Satan to punish Job.

Yes God allows Satan to do his own will, but it is Satan who is doing the evil deeds.

Have you ever wondered why you feel guilty after doing something very wrong? When you felt guilty did that stop you from doing that again?

The choice to do evil is yours. The choice to turn back to God is yours as well!

John 9:3 Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him.

Don’t blame everything bad on sin. The root of the problem may well be the sin that man brought into the world, but that does not mean that we get punished for our sins or our parents’ sins.

God is going to be glorified when people lift His name up and when people see what He does in their lives.

Our bodies are very complex and our minds are even more complex; that means they will go wrong at times and we have to accept the consequences.

But we can and should ask God to help us when things do go wrong. Accept and ask!

John 12:28 “Father, glorify Your name.” Then a voice came from heaven, saying, “I have both glorified it and will glorify it again.”

Jesus upheld God’s authority and deity by giving Him the glory at all times; and to stamp that authority God replied from Heaven that He would make sure His name would be glorified just as it had already been glorified.

God was going to glorify His name through many miracles and events that could not be attributed to anyone other than God Himself.

This ultimate authority of God was not only shown in what Jesus did and upheld but also by all who received the Holy Spirit.

God is faithful to respond to righteous people who will give Him the glory!

Matthew 26:39 He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.”

Do we have a right to complain to God? Yes we do! Jesus was showing us here that we have the right to say to God that we don’t like things.

It does not mean that we should go off and do our own thing just because we don’t like what God gives us though.

Jesus made it clear that he would follow God the Father no matter how much He Himself did not relish the prospect of so much pain and suffering.

Accept what God gives you. Question it and test it. But accept it!

John 5:30 I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me.

Christ is not a law unto Himself as many like to think they are but is part of the Trinity. In order for the Trinity to be the truth they have to agree on and about everything.

What Christ hears, not from men but from God the Father, He retells and uses to show others.

Christ is not seeking to puff Himself up but to lift up the name of Christ instead. When we get to hear what Christ has said, we can be sure that those words came from God and not just from His own lips.

John 5:17 But Jesus answered them, “My Father has been working until now, and I have been working.”

If God did not work on Sabbath days I think the word would fall apart!

God rested on the seventh day to give us direction and a time to remember Him. It did not mean He did absolutely nothing on that day!

God the Father, Jesus Christ and The Holy Spirit continue to work each day as required; but all three encourage us to rest on the Sabbath to remember them by.

Do not let go and expect God to do everything but do give God control and expect Him to give you work!

John 14:23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.

When you love or respect someone you normally will try to listen to them and obey them when asked something of them.

When we show others love and respect they will be more likely to trust us with things or to open up to us more.

When we listen and respect God, we will find He is more willing to share more with us and allow us to grow with Him.

Trust and obedience leads to much more than peace with God!

Jeremiah 29:9 For they prophesy falsely to you in My name; I have not sent them, says the Lord.

We have always had to face people who will try and lie their way through life and just because we may know some of the truth does not stop others from telling even more lies!

God has been warning us about people who will give us stories that sound so good that they invite us to trust in them.

There is always going to be people who cannot accept the fact that God knows best and they will make their own truths to sound better.

Listen to God first and foremost because He will never lie to us.

Matthew 24:4 And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you.

Jesus would always try to encourage the disciples by being positive and showing so much love to all around Him, but He would still make sure they understood the gravity of their lives at times.

We live in a world where so many people try to deceive us in so many ways; we cannot always understand why people try so hard to be evil, but they do.

God wants us to stay firmly focused on what is righteous so we can know when others come in with lies.

Don’t believe just because it sounds good or makes sense – make sure it is the truth…

1 Corinthians 15:33 Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.”

It is great to know that our Bibles have references to other writings!

The apostle obviously had read, or at least heard, the poem referenced and uses it to remind the Corinthians that the world does have good sounding words, but does not always convey the truth.

The people who do not walk with God will not be upholding God’s Word and His ways; they will be upholding their own ways or the ways of the world.

We need to keep focus on God so we can know His ways and live for Him.

Psalm 106:35 But they mingled with the Gentiles and learned their works;

One of the worst things we can do to ourselves is to give in to the ways of people around us and just go and do what they do even when we know it is wrong!

If we have learned something is wrong then we should be standing up for what is right! Giving in to what is wrong is just foolish!

And yet so many of us continue to do it without thinking – be it giving in to ways, language, behaviour, or whatever else goes on around us, we are not helping ourselves.

God wants us to be strengthened through standing up for righteousness and not giving in to evil. Do the exercise and grow in strength!

Exodus 16:2 Then the whole congregation of the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness.

No matter how important people are, if they start talking about things you don’t want to hear or don’t believe, you will begin to switch off and think of other things.

This is a problem that we all face and we all come up against some time in our lives because the evil one is trying to distract us and to make us doubt even more.

The people wanted more than Moses was giving them and they started complaining because Moses was sticking to what God was saying.

Are you strong enough to stick up for God even when you find people falling asleep or turning away from you?

Deuteronomy 8:3 So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.

When we are too proud to do something the only person who loses out in the end is us…

God does not require a lot from us when we compare what the world wants from us against what He requires of us; but we give in to the world…

Time after time God gives us space and He tries to guide us in the right direction. Time after time we chose to do nothing or to go the other way because we are too proud.

God is trying to teach us to be humble so we can accept what we really need and not take what we want!

Psalm 103:2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits:

Lifting up the name of Christ and making sure He is recognised for all He does should be our daily pleasure.

It is Christ who was there at the very beginning putting things into place. It is Christ who was there on the cross for us. It is Christ who will be there for us throughout time.

When we do take time to recognise all that He does for us and all that He has already done for us, we rejoice!

Let those memories never leave us so we can rejoice continually in all He has done, forever.
