1 Corinthians 4:7 For who makes you differ from another? And what do you have that you did not receive? Now if you did indeed receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?

What is it that makes you different from other people and how did you become different?

We have choices we make in our lives and those choices tend to define our lives as we continue to grow and learn and experience.

But each one of us continues to be different from the others. We each have our strengths and weaknesses which makes us unique in some way.

If we all learned from the same source, why are we so different? Because that is what God did, made us unique.

1 Peter 4:10 As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

Hospitality goes further than just being there and supplying food and shelter for others. Jesus love is all encompassing meaning He loved people without limit and without prejudice.

We do tend to limit our love or define our love depending on the way others act or how they give back to us when we give to them. That is not Christ’s way. He gave without conditions.

Each of us has the ability to do various things, many times we can do things other people cannot do; these are just some of the gifts Christ has given us to use.

Sharing your abilities and time with others without prejudice and limiting conditions is what Jesus wants us to do.

1 Peter 4:9 Be hospitable to one another without grumbling.

How many times have you said you would be there for someone, support them, help them or look after them only to wonder why you ever said that and grumble about having to do it?

I know I have volunteered and then wondered why, or volunteered for something I don’t want to do, or been ‘volunteered’ by someone else to do things; but I try hard not to grumble.

Jesus taught the disciples the power of love and the right way to love their neighbours. He continues to encourage each of us to keep doing the same – love the people around us.

But the real love is shown by actions, actions without grumblings!

Deuteronomy 12:32 Whatever I command you, be careful to observe it; you shall not add to it nor take away from it.

When Moses was reminding the people of Israel about the commandments God had given them it was not just the Ten Commandments but the whole list of them.

God was trying to get the people to turn away from their evil ways by sticking to the laws as best they could. When they couldn’t He gave them forfeits or sacrifices they had to do.

God does not want us to make up our own rules because we will make them so we can live more easily with them. God wants them to be right and that means sticking with them as given by Him.

Joshua 1:7 Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses

My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go.

After Moses died God spoke to Joshua to make sure he knew how important his role would be amongst the people; God charged him with keeping the law.

If you are a Christians leader in any way people expect you to keep God’s laws and if you do not they begin to have doubts of the importance of the law itself.

Knowing the law is one thing but keeping it will speak much louder than just telling others the words.

Be courageous and stand up for God’s laws.

Psalm 111:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all those who do His commandments. His praise endures forever.

Understanding God comes from understanding the Bible and applying what we understand into our lives.

Knowing the rules and regulations in anything in life is not much good until you follow them, obey them and apply them into your life.

God has been very specific through the Bible and we need to know what He says about things.

But not matter how much we may get wrong, He still deserves all the praise for being right!

Job 23:12 I have not departed from the commandment of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food.

When Job was faced with so much trouble he did not blame God because he knew God was powerful enough to do anything. He knew God was a loving God who protected and did not turn His back on His people.

Job tried to make sure the people around him knew he still trusted God for everything and here he tells his friend God’s Word is worth more than earthly food.

I know what it is like to be hungry and I know what it’s like to have plenty food. I know what it is like to be hungry for God’s Word and to be filled with God’s word!

I too prefer God’s Word!

Psalm 119:103 How sweet are Your words to my taste, Sweeter than honey to my mouth!

I love the taste of honey, especially when it is fresh from the comb and has all the flavours of the flowers around the hive.

It may not be the sweetest thing I know but the taste is so much better than sugar or syrup or other things we think of as being sweet.

God’s word is so much more than just a bunch of words in a book because it will rejuvenate us just as honey can.

Take in God’s Word and allow it to reach deep into your soul, refreshing you more than any other book.

Psalm 34:8 Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!

How many times have you been asked to taste some strange food? Did you like it despite what people said?

If we are not going to taste the Gospel we are never going to know how good it really is. Yes we can rely on what other people say, but in order to really know, we have to taste it for ourselves.

God wants each of us to make up our own minds about Him and His love for us. He wants each of us to get to know Him personally and not just trough someone else.

If you want to be close to God you have to first invite Him into your life!

Galatians 5:16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

Do you despair when people tell you just how easy it was to turn away from sin in their lives? Do you wonder whether you will ever be able to be one of those who walks away from sin?

Don’t worry because you are not alone! I have heard many people say how they wish they could have my faith or be more like me and yet I know I am a sinner!

The truth is we all have our weaknesses but as long as we try to walk with God and allow Him to guide us through His Spirit, we have a far better chance at getting things right!

It is not easy to turn away from the world, so why not try asking God to help you rather than fighting by yourself?

John 15:7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.

Jesus promised to carry out God’s will just as God had shown to David and many more over the years.

Where is the catch? We need to do what David was doing and continue to love and serve God as best we can.

We are not perfect and we make mistakes and fall flat on our faces at times. God knows we are not perfect, but He still loves us.

Love God with all you can and trust in Him as best you can. He wants to give you all the blessings in the world; if only we trust Him to do so…

Psalm 37:4 Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.

One of the best blessings I have had when saying goodbye to someone was for them to say “I pray God will give you the desires of your heart.”

What an awesome thing it is to know we serve a God who wants to be able to give us the desires of our heart.

David knew this first hand because of the blessings he has received over the years he had known God.

This is not a casual word let out by David but something he had grown up with knowing and wanted everyone to know it as their own personal truth too.

Mark 11:23 For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.

When Christ wanted to show how faith and trust in Him would result in amazing miracles He chose to turn the comparison of an immovable mountain on its head.

When we have faith enough to trust God can do anything, He will be able to deliver on His promise to answer our prayers beyond the normal and beyond the physical possibilities of this earth.

Nothing is impossible with God, but our lack of faith continues to limit our requests being made to Him.

Psalm 125:1 Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever.

When was the last time you tried to pick up a huge boulder or a small hill? I guess you have not tried either!

It sounds nonsensical to think of moving a hill by yourself but by comparing God’s love for us with a hill shows us how His love will never be moved.

Nothing we can do will ever be able to move God’s love for us in any direction. He loves and protects far beyond our imagination.

Psalm 57:1 Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me! For my soul trusts in You; And in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge, Until these calamities have passed by.

David would write on occasion of how God delivered him from danger and peril; each time is real and the danger was real too.

God is able to look out for us in ways we cannot imagine and ways in which we find out later may only be described as being supernatural.

God is able. God is willing. God is faithful.

Trusting Him should be a matter of course and not a matter of faith or hope for us. We are the ones who doubt and we are the ones who are weak; not God!

1 Samuel 24:4 Then the men of David said to him, “This is the day of which the Lord said to you, ‘Behold, I will deliver your enemy into your hand, that you may do to him as it seems good to you.’” And David arose and secretly cut off a corner of Saul’s robe.

When Saul entered into the cave he thought it was safe to do so because of his army he had waiting outside. He chose to enter into the darkness of the cave.

David had been in the dark cave longer than Saul and was probably used to the diminished light, but without any light he would not have been able to cut off a bit of Saul’s garment.

We all need light in our lives and the amount of light we allow into our lives will dictate how easy it is for us to see the obstacles we will come up against.

Let God’s light shone brightly to allow you to see everything in your path!

Proverbs 4:19 The way of the wicked is like darkness; They do not know what makes them stumble.

When people continue to want to walk in the dark they will not know what they are walking in or stumbling over when they fall.

But when we do have a little light in our lives we begin to see the world for what it is and we begin to see obstacles we can avoid. Avoiding them becomes common sense!

Not knowing that something is there will not make it disappear; we may not see it but it is still there and still a danger to us.

Don’t let the dark fool you into a false sense of security, rather switch on the light and see what is ahead.

John 12:35 Then Jesus said to them, “A little while longer the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you; he who walks in darkness does not know where he is going.

When is the best time to look for a lost item at night time; when the light is on or when the light is off?

It may seem a silly question to ask but we are living through this type of thing every day because Christ is trying to shine His light into our lives and we continue to switch it off!

Opening the door and letting the light in is the first step. Keeping that light in the room is the next logical step to take.

Using the light to do things is what makes the real difference in our lives!

1 John 1:5 This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.

Jesus came to shed light in this dark world. We continue to close doors and hide in corners so the light will not expose us!

Accepting the light and allowing it to cleanse us may be a frightening step to take at first, but one which is well worth the risk!

There is not dark side to Christ so we need not fear He will do bad things to us. He wants to get rid of the dark and shower us with His light once and for all.

Heaven will be filled with His glorious light; take a taste of heaven today with Christ in your life!

1 Timothy 6:16 who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see, to whom be honour and everlasting power. Amen.

We serve a God who is perfect. This means we cannot actually look Him in the eye unless we are perfect otherwise we would corrupt His perfection.

The most amazing thing is He has given us direct access to Him through Christ Jesus who did come to earth to live amongst us.

We serve a God who is perfect and through that perfection was able to come as a servant to mankind to give us eternal life.

God alone deserves all of our praise for all He has done and is continuing to do every second of every day!
