July 13: Romans 15:14-21
Key Verse: Romans 15:21
Rather, as it is written: ‘Those who were not told about him will see, and those who have not heard will understand.’
Devotion:
One of the hardest things to accept is someone saying you have to do something you do not like! I’m sure Paul had mixed feelings about his going out to the Gentiles in the beginning since he started out as being the staunchest of Jews; so being told he should go to the gentiles and teach them about Christ may have come as a bit of a shock in the beginning.
But as the words in this section of passage tell us, Paul thought it the greatest honour to be able to go out and tell people about Christ – no matter who they were or where they came from! This is the attitude we need to see more of in our churches in the Western World. We do tend to stick to our own and not go out of our comfort zones or out of our circle of friends… How is the church supposed to expand if we do not break those moulds and go out to people we don’t normally see or talk to!
When Jesus told us we have to love God with everything and love our neighbours, it did not mean just the person next door, but everyone around us. The more the world takes on travel and the internet, the more our neighbours become further afield and more widespread.
God wants us to be able to reach out to people who haven’t heard the gospel yet… How are they going to get to know how special it is to be in a relationship with Christ unless someone shows them and tells them? Our goal as disciples is to reach out to people in whatever means we can, to tell them about Christ and to allow them to want to do the same – this is the love of Christ spreading...
Points to Ponder:
Who knows you are a Christian?
Who do you talk to about God?
